How would you clean it up? Blast or strip

I imagine you're finished with the stripping process by now. You said you'd show results. So how'd the electrolysis method work for you? Since the thread came back up, I'll add this for anyone else considering options.

    I'll use mollases.

After reading MP&C's sandblasting test thread, I will never have sheetmetal blasted to remove rust, except maybe for small pieces, boxed sections, or tightly curved areas that are stronger and less prone to damage. Anyone who has large, fairly flat panels blasted will likely have warpage. When blasting, the damage is not due to heat buildup, as many believe, (there is none) but rather the peening and surface tension relieving, and it doesn't matter how low the pressure is, or how much care is taken. Electrolysis is a good way to go, but I like the idea of easier and safer disposal of the molassis solution. There are plenty of tutorials (including Youtube videos) for the mollases method.

    Here's MP&C's test thread.

Sorry I haven't added photos. I had some stuff blasted with sand, the structural pieces. I used electrolisis on the big panels and phosphoric acid on them after that. I will get som more pics up but here is a couple, one of my tank. ( notice the electrodes, half wire brushed) One of a door after soaking 4 days.

  4. My PPG rep (who I trust completely) Says "If you have it soda blasted, use someone else's paint. DON'T even call me!"
    That's good enough for me.

For rust I have had good luck with phosphoric etch and prep. You can get it at Home Depot. Spray it down with the stuff using a squirt bottle. Let it sit over night. And wash off the next day. Most will come off leaving just bare metal. What does not come off. Rub with a scotch brite pad. Spray some on those places and wash off the next morning. When all is off spray it again for a protective coat. And then wash it off when you are ready to work on it. It won't take paint off.

My paint guy told me NEVER soda blast a car if you want the paint to stay on. He said no paint company will warrantee their product if the car was soda blasted. Any truth to this?
