Howdy - First Post

Discussion in 'New to the H.A.M.B.? Introduce yourself here!' started by The Shift Wizard, Jan 10, 2017.

  1. Howdy from Texas. I'm retiring from spending a lot of money on vehicles that depreciate and graduating to owning something that should hold its value.
A few months back, I bought a 1952 Chevy panel truck that was an "unfinished project". It was also a train wreck. The seller was one of those guys who could take a crate full of new parts and with a bit of work, make a vehicle worth less than when he started. It all has to be torn down to the pieces for a do over.
Anyway, I'll be lurking around here researching first and asking questions later. I'm not an expert but I am an enthusiast. I'll try and fit in and not be a pest.

Howdy! I can't ignore a thread with my favorite greeting in the title. Any cowboy HAS to respond to a friendly Howdy!

Did you make that Onyx shift knob in your avatar photo? I've been playing around making shift knobs lately, so it jumps out at me.

    Howdy!
I have a lot of history loving, owning, building, buying, selling Chevy Panels & Windowed Suburban's. As far as holding it's value I have found that if you have a Panel they want a Suburban with windows, if it's black they want red, if it's an auto they want a manual, if it's a 283 they want a 350, no A/C they want it, on & on & on. When I say "they" I mean the buying market. Good luck on your build and post lots of pic's!

Hi. & welcome from a bit south east of you. I like the panels. had a 46 Chevy panel delivery back in early 60's and it was likely the dumbest thing I ever did in getting rid of it.

  9. Thanks for the welcome(s) everybody.
I'm going to hold off on the photos for a little while (I'm not a troll, honest!) because the previous owner made a total hot mess out of the panel truck which I plan to correct. I just want it to be identified with me and not some other hack saying, "Hey! That's was my truck!" So as soon as I eliminate the past crimes and leave a cold trail, I'll throw down some photos.
About the knob avatar.... That's a vintage survivor I refurbished for another guy's car, new threaded insert, etc. I have a small hobby/business involving shift knobs but I don't want to get into all that. I'm not here to sell my wares, though. I just want to hang with the big dogs.

(But since Cowboy Ted brought up the shift knob subject, and we're talking about my truck, just today I finished this tiger eye gemstone T-handle that's going in it. I'm going to have little touches of brass with the chrome so this is one of those.)
