Howdy from a noob in the hills of WV! Most of my current old iron is in tractors from the 40's, but am looking at getting some more roadworthy old iron here pretty soon. Hopefully, the 39 Dodge I am eyeballing will pan out.
Welcome and good luck on getting the 39. I would love to get down there someday for a good hunting trip. Take care
Unfortunately, because of work, this last season, I got to go hunting all of one day at the end of the season after the deer were already scared out of state. Maybe this year I will have more time. The gentleman that has the 39 has a BUNCH (at least 50) of other older (pre 1975ish) cars of all sorts. He told me he wasn't interested in selling parts, but only complete vehicles. Once I work a deal with him on the 39, if he is interested in it, I will get a list of vehicles and post a list and his contact info.
If any of those cars has a Duncan-Catron Motor Company dealer badge (from Beckley), I'd be interested. My great uncle Walt Duncan owned the Dodge dealership in Beckley for many years.
Believe me when I say it. There's folks on here that would be interested in most any of those vehicles. Please get the info and post it on the H.A.M.B. And by the way, Welcome from nearby Maryland. You'll have a great time here.......Don.
I have no doubt there would be interest. I just don't want anyone sniping before I get what I want. I also need to check with him and see what he wants to sell and what he doesn't and make sure it's ok to flood him with phone calls. When I talk to him, I will take pictures too. There are at least 3 barn sized buildings full of cars and then a lot about the size of half a football field full of cars. Some are rusted away, some are in real nice shape. Some are cl***ics, some are 80's Caprices. But the cl***ics outnumber the non-cl***ics by a long shot.
I completely understand. Now that you've let the cat out the bag though, you've got to at least give us some teaser shots of what's there even if you don't let us know exactly where the treasures are located......Don.
Welcome! I grew up in WV, my folks still live in Glenville so I head up that way several times a year. Look forward to seeing pics of your project.
Thanks for the welcomes! Well... I was going to go out there this weekend, but forgot this was my on-call weekend, which means I need to stay pretty close to home and Internet, so I probably won't be able to go out and take pictures. Thankfully, my awesome wife said she would run out there and take some pics and get details. Once I have them, I will post.
Well, I finally talked to the current owner. It is actually a 48 Dodge Business Coupe. He claims it is complete and running and is asking $5500 for it. Which is a bit out of my budget for this project. He said he is not actively trying to sell it and plans to restore it himself. Once I finish my week of oncall, I will go out and visit with him about the rest of his cars. He did direct me to a 40 Plymouth 2dr Sedan in running condition for $1600, and a 56 Nomad w/o Engine,Trans,Interior for $600. The looks of the Plymouth don't do anything for me, and the Nomad is too much of a parts hunting project for me. Will post more details on what he has once I get them.
Give some thought to posting a request on the main board asking for photos of finished '40 Plymouths. They're not bad looking cars when finished up nicely. You might change your mind when you see a few completed. Any way you go, good luck.......Don.
