I'm Murf from Pinellas county, Florida. Have a 1963 T-Bird about completed after 19+ years; a '34 Ford I have not started on yet, but bought a running '90 Chevy S-10 for its long-bed frame and suspension (& maybe the quick 4.3L EFI) to put under the '34 Ford body; a '81 Silverado with 'Vette rear and hydraulic lift-bed for yard work. Was gonna redo it, got lotsa stuff for it, but found the current WIP = my 1955 Chevy 2nd Series Pickup with deluxe cab and a '93 bed. She's got a Monte Carlo front clip in her and a 305. Bought a SBC 350 4 bolt years ago. Original plan was to use it OR a Ford 302 I have for the '34 Pickup. Found the 350 was built in a high-nickle content 302 block used for Zs. So that is what I'm looking into building for the '55. Will have some Qs for yaw'll as I haven't built a 302 since my '69 Z broke in '81 and that darn gasoline has changed a lot since then. Started in the 50s with a '49 Plymouth and all manner of mechanicals on 5 diesel submarines. {Loved the subs, but they kept sinking all the time }
Hey, welcome to the HAMB. Just a couple of comments on some of your projects - the best frame to use under your '34 Ford is going to be one based on on the stock frame, either modified or purpose built. That S-10 frame won't fit that Ford very well, and won't look very good once it's under there. S-10 frames work O.K. under some late '40's - early '50's trucks ( based on track width and wheelbase similarities ), but they aren't a one-size-fits-all hot rod frame, besides not being very traditional looking. Along that same line, a late '50's Task Force cab with a late model bed would also be criticized by the traditionalists on this board. I'm not saying its a bad looking combo, but it doesn't fit with the up-to 1964 era that is the focus of the HAMB. Don't be put off by any of this, you'll find some really great technical info on here, but do take take a look at some threads on traditional rods or customs from the '40's or the '50's to see what this place is about - helps to avoid the "newbie rash".
