Projects Hows your project going?

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by HOTRODPRIMER, Mar 27, 2016.

  1. Car stuff has.... stalled over the past few years. Life just keeps grabbing me by the shirt front and shaking. Another hurdle. Hopefully the projects will come around again.

I like to have a bunch of parts/product in hand before I begin in earnest, that way each job starts and finishes. Got a late start to it but each move is a one time deal. Do it, done. I'll be doing the woodgrain as soon as I get 1 more part to an additional grain job. If I'm gonna sit on my fat ass and grain I want to do as much as possible. On again off again doesn't work for me, no hydro graphics, no patterns, plates, rollers or decals. All artistic with a brush. I was asked "Is the interior coming?" " No, just breathing heavy." was my reply. We did a bunch then stopped to attend to the client's needs. I have a hurdle or 2 to get over, some me personally, some buisness, then I'll be kickin it hard again. Help is fleeting, we all have lives to lead, commitments beyond the shop, all important in their own ways. Such is the life, even for shop owners.

I'm not in the middle of any projects right now. But one of these days, I'll take something apart, and put it back together again.

Had a crazy idea I'd have my AV8 roadster on the road this summer. The chassis, brake lines run and running gear done and ready for body work and body transplant. Unfortunately I blew my shoulder out mountain biking in Calif. Surgery scheduled for the 15th. Maybe , just maybe, I shouldn't be doing this shit at my age. The mountain biking thing that is!

Slowly these days, "Nothing happens fast" is my program now. Like your clip, reminds me of my racing days, Very True ! The faster you throw $$$ at it, the faster you go.

I started my '36 Ford 3w coupe build about 5-years ago and expect to have it completed by next Summer. I've wanted this car for 50+ years and just got it in 2010. I started the build in 2011 and thought I'd get it done in 2-3 years at a modest price. It's going to take me twice as long and cost more than my first house (back in 1970). I don't work quite as fast as I used to, but I guess at 70 I'm lucky to be able to do what I do !

Just trying to make a little progress each week on the '31. Got a few things done.

Found some front fenders but still looking for some coupe rears. Not the best shape but fixable.

Whipped up some motor mounts for the flathead.
Next up is to extend the rear of the frame for the '36 banjo.

Then it will be time to box the frame and install the x member from Dagel's. Still debating stepping the rear frame 3". I will start a build thread once I get an actual body.

  15. Been following your build. Great progress!
Care to share your color choice? It's perfect, IMO.

Well, after the county came and made me build a fence because a PITA neighbor who reports everybody didnt like my cars, things have slowed considerably. Everything had to move off the driveway and into the back yard. After taxes come back, I'll make a major rock auto order and get back on track.

  17. Ha ha. that GIF is so on target.
I haven't been able to do anything of consequence in about a year. I have two ongoing projects and another couple in the wings. The two ongoing ones are running so thats progress. I keep breaking my body; I get over one operation or disease and another happens. Just got over shoulder surgery and contracted another disease. But thats life, sure beats the alternative. I am just glad its my hobby and not my livelihood.

  18. Haven't done much for almost a month...colds, flu, lazyness all conspire to keep me inside, watching TV when I'm not on the job. Ok, ok....I rebuilt the first toolbox I ever owned, a Kennedy machinist chest.....was motivated to do it after I found a matching Kennedy bottom box for $20 at the Lincoln swap meet last month. I'm starting to get the "itch" to get back on the 34 coupe tho.

  19. Thanks. The color is "1976 Triumph TR6 - Damson Red"
Single stage PPG Concept series paint. It's being water sanded and buffed out now, should have the body mounted by the end of this week...

  22. That is the color I have in mind for my T, I sold a TR6 that color to start this build so I thought it a fitting tribute. ;)

  23. After a year plus in shakedown, I started disassembly in November. I'm in final assembly now, and expect completion by June.

Well my project is a runner, or more like a beater I guess. I'm driving the hell out of it while I do small improvements one at a time. This past weekend I replaced the small 4" mushroom air cleaners with a pair of 7" mushroom cleaners. I had to widen the radiator support rod mount on the radiator to gain the needed clearance. Last weekend the project was to get rid of any rubber fuel lines between the pump and the carbs, replaced with 5/16" SS tubing. Next up is baffles for the headers, then blasting and re-coating. Then I've got body and paint work to do and interior, so I'll be after it for awhile yet. Gonna keep enjoying it in the meantime. IMG_7336.JPG IMG_7343.JPG

I am stoked, I just got my headlight & taillight buckets back from pinstriping (Matt Stankis) and my gas tank came back from the painter, so it'll go off for pinstriping later this week DSC00141.JPG DSC00142.JPG DSC00143.JPG

  29. ...this has been my longest term project, started over 5 years ago, not much left to do but just can't find the ambition....maybe because I already have too many running/driving old vehicles already...
