The only car I ever regret selling.
They had a 265 Hemi straight six, Triple Webers , Hot Cam, Headers, Dual Plate Clutch , ROH Alloy wheels ,36 gallon tank etc from factory
Horsepower was 302hp for the E49 and 280hp for the earlier E38

They were at the time the fastest accelerating Aussie car. [Quicker than the GTHO Falcon]
I chickened out at about 140 mph in mine [running out of road]

Mine was a 1972 E38 basically a different cam and 3 speed close ratio trans. [and even Rarer]
It could do 70 mph in 1st, 108 mph in 2nd, 140 mph in 3rd

Mine was one of 5 imported into NZ by the Todd Motor Group for their racing program [and sold in their dealerships new]
Todd motors were the Chrysler importers and assemblers in NZ [later sold to Mitsubishi motors]

I was young ,stupid, and bulletproof back then [this car last changed hands at $225k and went back to Aussie back in 2016]
    here it is

They still pop up occasionally online for sale
    https://www.drive.com.au/news/hey-charger-1972-valiant-charger-e49-big-tank-for-sale-400-000/

When I sold mine back in 1982, I got enough to buy a freehold plot of land in a good neighborhood
Today that same land is worth $500K + so even thought the Charger was a rare example of keeping up with inflation, Most cars don't.
I only regret selling it for the memories, not the value

Discs up front , finned rear drums, poor mans ABS [aka NO BOOSTER] ,No power steering [16:1 quick ratio].
No sound deadener or carpet underlay. No centre console, just a golf club shifter out of the floor.

Driving the E38, and especially the E49 was a very primal experience. I drove a mate's a few times in the 80's. Only an E38 if I remember correctly, but it is a feeling that stays with you.

The E38 was like taking off in 2nd gear in an E49 [the close ratio 3 speed was similar to 2nd, 3rd, and 4th in the E49]
I remember driving past a cop with a radar and whacking it back into 1st at 60 mph [and staying there]
The thing was screaming ,but I wasn't speeding :D:D

Looks like that pic was taken at Southside Ford, Logan Road, Woolloongabba QLD.
Where did you spend your time in Australia?

..... and, by the way, the colour you are looking for is Vermillion Fire....;)

  23. I see, thanks. Thats Max Cullen with the shades. Met him in the Minyip Pub about 1986 where they were filming the Flying Doctors. ( Coopers Crossing fake town ) The episode where Hurtle ( Max ) had a stolen Rolls Royce. Flying Doctors was a big hit here, the missus wanted to see the town. She was over the moon meeting Max and Maurice Fields ( barkeeper Vic ) Did,nt see Rebecca Gibney ( girl mechanic Emma ) anywhere :( I read somewhere that she was the first female mechanic in a TV series or movie.

Waaaaayyyy O/T, but Sydney Channel 7 is restarting the RFDS The Flying Doctors series in October. I’d offer to record them on VHS and send them over but not sure I am competent to record VHS anymore :D

    cheers,
