hello i have a question i was looking at buying a 350 motor from a guy and he told me that it was around 430hp! based on the following specs does this sound right? specs 1.94 cam-shortened springs and ported trw pistons 9.1 compression cam is edelbrock 5.12 lift cam long tub headers performer intake holley street avenger carb
I'm doubting it. But maybe. I guess it could be done. I just dont see how. How does he have any kind of idea what it put out? Did he have it dyno'ed?
well what do you think it is based on numbers? i see crate engines 350 that say 400hp. what would be different in those,
with a little more accurate specs it would be a lot easier to say. see what more specific info you can get from him. i do have to say though, that with only 9:1 comp it's not very likely to have anywhere near that power.
what more would you need standard bore 2bolt block 3970010 from 69-79 rated at 185low hp to 370high hp
well the overall cam specs would help. is the intake a plain performer or is it the RPM...and maybe i'm just ignorant but i don't understand "1.94 cam-shortened springs" to get 430hp out of a 350, you need to do some serious work and it'd hard to see with such abbreviated specs. were the heads bench/flow tested or were they just port matched? but like said before, it's just hard to see that w/ such relatively low compression unless there's been more extenxive stuff done on top of that.
It's all in the combination. Compression ratio, cam specs, intake style, carb size, and good ignition all need to work together. The whole engine is only as good as the weakest link. I would say buy a book, there are about ten-million books on small chevys and anyone of them can give you alot of different ways to reach the kind of power your looking for.
I'd say get the numbers off of the back of the block and research those to find out what the motor started out as. Then given the parts and work you listed it would still be hard to get 430 hp unless maybe it was an LT1 with maybe aluminum heads. Don't let HP ratings fool ya though because a lower hp rated motor even can run strong depending on trans selection and rear end gear. The lower the gear the more fun runnin it through the gears to a point unless you get too steep a gear then goes any fuel economy
Horse power numbers are like 1/4 mile ets. You can say, this car outta run 11s just like you can say this motor makes 430 horse. You can SAY anything. To back it up is something else. For the record. A 430 horse small block Chevvie can be done, but it's not terribly cheap nor is it terribly common. Check out GM Performance parts and thier dyno proven 430 hp crate motors. And check out the price tag... -Abone.
??? I have heard of 1.94 valves, but what are 'cam shortened'springs?Broken springs? .512 lift on the cam? That would bend the valves..upon hitting the 'ported pistons" get the facts/specs in writing before you spend any $$$..
