She puts over the road trucker style miles on that little car... You can't fault it for needing a hand once in a while. Good luck, -Abone.

Car died at slow speed and won't restart. First time tried to start it after him dying there was a puff of smoke from the area of steering column drop. Tumbler turns, gauges come on, but that's it. Flatbed on the way. I'm having him towed to Battle Creek michigan so I'm closer to home. Hamb guys house but he's not home. Would like truck and trailer from battle creek to livonia or maybe just a ride for me home and I can go back and pick up the car later. Or if someone in the BC/Kzoo area that might be willing to look at issue today?? Thanks Oh yeah Pileup was a BLAST!
Driving down the road, it quit at speed, no warning. It will not crank, no electric power anywhere. Starter replace 1000 miles back. I am thinking fueable link bad, or broken wire at the starter.
Does she have a test light or volt meter in the car with her? Maybe someone can walk her through testing the circuit on the phone. It looks like we we all typing at the same time. It sounds like a short in or around the ignition switch.
If she says her gauges are working, and you're saying no electrical power anywhere, we can't help too much...
A couple jumper wires, one to the coil & other momenterily to the starter relay will fix a lot of problems.....on a good day. Wish I was closer.
That would work if she wasn't getting any power to the inside but might not be the best thing to do with the short under the dash or in the column.
I think she has it under control getting a rollback. The problem sounds like at or around the ignition switch since all ignition stuff come from it but the dash lites etc are independant of ignition and don't need 'key on'. Since the car died but won't crank over i would have a looksee at the switch supply wire - i am ***uming her olds is rewired/updated and it'd be a tough guess where its' origin is.
She had not told me about the guages when I posted. I talked to her again, did some quick and dirty testing over the phone. The next time she tried it, the carb started smoking, still no crank, It may be a broken ground. I had her disconnect the battery cables until it can be checked out properly. I don't want her to have a fire.
Good luck with the fix, Denise. Keep us informed when you're safely home. Hopefully Big Olds will be a simple repair.
