I am looking into saving up for a effective/dependable/pricedrightsomywifewon'tdivorceme welder. I know that i don't need tig, (i will do all sheetmetal, body fab stuff, but a so mig can do pretty much anything i would need. I got an HTP brochure/mag in the mail. checked it out, read through everything and then saw the prices...
i know this topic has hit plenty of times. so i don't mean to beat it dead, millers are good, lincoln's not bad, get one you need not one you want...and so forth...but it seems that you get what you pay for. anyone have a voice or opinion would help. cuz these babies aren't cheap.

Tok, Tractor Supply Company up here has Hobart 125's for $319. The only thing would be you have to buy the gas kit seperately. I don't know if thats in the price range your lookin for. Hope that helps. later plmczy

Figure out what you need, and try and find one at one of the welding supply places down here in DE. No sales tax + no shipping= potentially large savings. That way you can keep your wife.

I got my Hobart 130 new, deliverd to my door with a cart, regulator, etc. for $400 off egay. pretty good price and all I neede t o add was the bottle. just troll around there and you'll come across some good "buy it now" deals on the Hobarts and Millers.

Hey Tokyo. I have gotten a lot of tools/supplies from HTP as well as a gas outfit from them and was very happy with their customer service - they seem like a good group of folks. BUT their welder's are a little pricey. I recently bought a Hobart 175 from Welder's Direct and it was right around $615 including shipping and a cart. They take about two weeks to get it to you, but they were about $75 - $100 cheaper than the local shops. You can check out their stuff at http://www.welders-direct.com/merchant2/merchant.mv - and those prices they show INCLUDE shipping, which is kind of nice. See you later.

Tokyo - I just bought a Millermatic 175 off E-bay from Indianapolis - Company called IOC. Check e-bay number 2586651696 and then click on Sellers Other Items for a complete listing. Great prices, and super to deal with. You can buy direct if you want to avoid E-Bay. My Millermatic was $654.00 shipping included. They carry Miller, Lincoln and Hobart.

Actually, I was caught in a bind a year ago, needed a quick welder but didn't have the cash. Ended up biting the leather and just got a cheap C&H with regulator. Its rudimentarily a Lincoln. Its done me good so far. Welded up some bike frame with it and other stuff, has been a decent performer. I like Miller welders personally, and plan on going with a new Miller when money allows. But for now this does decent enough.....just my double copper....

The HTP is a good welder, had mine for over 10 years and welding strong. My buddy bought a snap-on mig, thought it was ok, tried the htp and wanted to throw out the snap-on. Yep the customer service is great. My choice would be a Miller, best one I have ever used! I would save a bit more and get a miller!! Buy a great tool and just have to buy it once [IMG]

    Toke-

I picked up a barely used Lincoln 110V for $130 off of eBay. Keep your eyes open and you'll find a deal.

Do any of the schools near your college offer welding classes? Jeff McKelvey and I have talked about signing up for a class so we can improve our skillz.

I'd check the local welding supply houses. A lot of the time there are big sales this time of year. Some of them will even have used machines (trade ins). I like dealing with my local supply house. They know my name, they give me good advice, and they service my equipment. It really didn't cost anymore than mail order, especially with shipping. I just suggest that if you plan on welding a frame at any point think about getting a 220 welder instead of 110.

I,ve had my Millermatic 35 forever(20+ yrs) with no problems other than wear items(tips, liner, etc).
Miller 35's are a very basic M.I.G. welder(no expensive circuit boards to burn out)and are very easy to find in the used market.
The Miller Vintage and 200 are also very good machines and used ones turn up frequently as companies upgrade their equipment.
