I tried many different combinations when I first bought the 40 Ford Sedan Delivery in high school. Being a teenager, it was important for this surf vehicle to look cool, everywhere I drove it. (surf movies, the beach, car shows, drags, and on dates, etc.) 1961
What I really wanted were those Halibrand Mags, but they were so far out of reach. So, I painted the rims black and started looking at different hubcaps, including the Moon Discs. The discs looked good, but I settled on the simple look of the Baby Moons and trim rings. This look of the Baby Moons and trim ring gave the 40 Sedan Delivery the simple surf van look that fit right in at the local beaches. Nothing fancy, just a surf vehicle for a teenager.

Jump up 10 years later and my wife and I bought another red, 40 Ford Sedan Delivery, locally. I liked the look of the black rims, baby moons and trim rings so much, that I changed the look of the newer, sedan delivery to try and match the old one I had 10 years earlier in high school. I got as far as the trim rings, but my wife like the small v8 logo and lines engraved in the simple center hubcaps we saw at a car show. So, she won this battle.

I (later, we were) was a painted rims w small hubcap fanatic(s).



On the 1958 black Impala in 1962-63. It had a series of small hubcaps and painted rims. I put on some beauty rims, but liked the simple small hubcap look. It was stock with small hubcaps, then silver rims/ blackwalls (change over to Buick Skylark wire rims and redrilled lug bolts during 1964 w/blackwalls, until they got stolen) Then in the fall of 1964, it went back to black Buick rims, small hubcaps/blackwalls before it got sold in late 1964.


The 1965 red, El Camino: silver rims, small hubcaps, no rings. It was a similar look to the 58 Chevy, except for the Inglewood Red Line wide tires.

We had one other new, blue, El Camino with blue rims, blackwalls and small center hubcaps. Then I purchased a set of larger tires, Corvette rims and small center hubcaps. Finally, after two years, we sold off those Corvette rims and bought real American Racing Co. 5 spoke mags…no more small hubcaps for us.

Nice photo of those classic small hubcaps for the Chevy. They look like the same ones we had on our cars mentioned in the thread. Those small hubcaps just fit the clean, Chevy look. Simple paint, simple hubcaps, lots of style. Great name: Dog Dish hubcaps...

NO F'n Red Wheels

 

O.K. to throw a truck into the mix? I didn't know there was a N.F.R.W. club - just about everyone back in the 50's in the CA town where we lived ran red wheels. To me they are about as traditional as it gets.

55 chevy 15" rims. looks better with the '56 lancer hubcaps than the small caps.

Nice photo, car and Lancer hubcap look. My brother had Lancers on his 51 Olds before he got those Moon Discs. But, they were so popular and there were many attempts to steal them, even with those secret wire loops. So, he decided to screw on the Moon Discs for the final look on his Olds.


The guy that bought the Lancers allowed my brother to put them on the new 58 Impala just for looks. My brother decided to go back to white walls and black rims for his cruiser look.

Our cousins had the small hubcap on black rims with white walls on their 56 Chevy hardtop.
