Hudson Mass. Old Timers Day/Location Change

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by 59BuickWagon, Mar 22, 2004.

  1. Hey it's official - the 2004 OldTimers Night will not be held on Monday - it will be held on Sunday. ALSO, get this...it will not be held in Hudson - it will be held in Canton!! Some place with real nice grounds. A horse place I heard. Easy access at the junction of 128 and 138.

Word is that it will be hed at the Prowse estate / Prowse farm, an old restored farm and colonial era trotter track (now owned by Meditech, who has an office building on the grounds) next to Rte 128 at the intersection of 128 and 138 like you said. It's a nice place right at the base of Great Blue Hill, but for those who might like a beer, I think that they (The Friends of Prowse Farm, the group that manages events there) do not allow alcohol sales, but there may be some way or some exemption around that. They don't have much in the way of night lighting unless they bring in portable lights.

I have been to a couple of non car events there, and actually photographed the place for the MDC parks agency in the 70's when they were trying to buy the place. (The Motorola corporation offered the owners more money, but the MDC did get the old sheep farm next to the Prowse farm)

The only minus to the place is that having been a horse farm for many years, the soil is really rich loam with a nice crop of grass on it, BUT, if it's a rainy week, I'm not sure how well it will stand up to cars being driven all over the place (there isn't much in the way of paved parking there). Sinking into mud could be a possibility. I just hope its a dry week before the show an a dry day for the show.

Oh yeah, the other minus to the place....one of the regional Mass State Police stations is about 3/4 of a mile down the road (a parkway through the Blue Hills) and even without a few hundred hotrods around, they are pretty strict about enforcing speeding around there (Squirrels beware!).

  4. Thanks for the update Dennis.I got a postcard from Fred about 2 months ago and he seemed to think it as going to be held somewhere down on the Cape.Thank God it isn't! I can't imagine trying to drive down there even after Labor Day.If the powers that be can put a hold on the monsoon season it probably won't be too bad.I'll be there one way or another.I was hoping to be driving the 57 but unless I get REALLY ambitious and do a banzai on it,the 55 will be out again.TTYL

As far as Fred's concerned, Canton IS the Cape.

I wonder how many of the members will be showing up for the work details with the event being that far away from where most of 'em live.
