What are the actual "Rules" for this show?

I heard that the California Kid was turned away,...it's a Hot Rod ain't it?

  3. Lots to read but this is on their website.... not like anyone should be surprised on arrival.

    Entry Criteria
The Hunnert Car Pilup is a Traditional Hot Rod and Custom show. That means that the cars admitted into the show are traditional 40’s, 50’s, and early 60’s style hot rods and customs. If you’re not sure what that means, you need to ask someone before planning a trip to the show. Our criteria inspection is thorough and we do turn cars away. One good way to judge if you car may meet the criteria is to look at the pics from previous years.
We are not trying to be elitist or snobby, nor are we trying to piss anyone off or say that their car is not “cool” or “good”. The Hunnert Car Pileup is a show for a specific set of vehicles and style of craftsmanship. For those of you who are grumbling about your car being too new, or otherwise not meeting our criteria, ask yourself if you would want a sport tuner Honda Civic at your model T show… would you? The Hunnert Car Pileup was built on the the spirit of “Tradition,” and we intend to keep it that way. Its the reason the show was started, and the reason it continues.
There is plenty of parking in front of the gate for the cars that don’t quite meet the criteria. There is quite a show on both sides of the gate! If your car, truck, bike or scooter gets get turned away at the door, don’t take it personally. We still want you to come and have a good time with us.
    The Criteria
To get into the show, your car must be a 1964 or earlier “Hot Rod” or “Custom” built in a “Traditional Style.” Any cars that appear stock will not be allowed in.
    1. No art cars
    2. No billet anything
    3. No digital gages
    4. No neon, 80’s style monochromatic paint or mural graphics
    5. No IFS on fenderless cars
    6. No TPI/EFI (with open hoods)
    7. No trailered cars*
    8. No stock-appearing/OEM cars
    9. Mag wheels at our discretion

*Not even in the parking lot! Cars that arrive at the Fairgrounds on a trailer will be turned away (except pre-approved “project” cars and pre-approved non-street legal dragsters and race cars).
    Project Cars section:
The “Project” cars section is meant to give people a chance to show off their work if the car isn’t quite driveable yet. This space will also be available for dragsters and other race cars that are not street legal. The same criteria rules apply though, except the trailer rule. Project cars can be trailered in, but the trailers must be out of the show area by 9am. All project cars must be pre-approved, so check with us before trailering your project to the show. The project car section is strictly limited to 15 cars. Contact Magnet for details.
    Motorcycles:
Bikes must be old-school/traditional looking choppers, bobbers, or pre ‘78 cafe racers.
    1. No art bikes
    2. No stock bikes
    3. No twin cam Harleys
    4. No new Indians, Buell, Big Dog, or West Coast Chopper/OCC style bikes
    5. No aluminum wheels
    6. No wide rear tires

    Scooters:
Limited to older american and european scooters (Cushman, Vespa, Lambretta, etc). No new Stellas, etc.
If you are not sure what these criteria mean or you’re unsure if your car fits, look at pictures of cars from our previous shows or email us with specific questions. We reserve the right to refuse entry to any vehicle that we feel does not fit the spirit of the show. Absolutely no stuffed animals or cry baby dolls!
In order to get everyone in and parked quickly, there will be no reserved parking. If your club wants to park together, you must arrive together.
There will be no pre-registration. Standard admission fees apply: $20 per car, $5 per pedestrian.

I think everyone who has never put together a show should try it. It's not worth the hassle, but people still do it.

Better yet, volunteer for next years show. That way nothing gets by the eagle eye.

The only reason that I am scared to volunteer and work the gate is that I think i would be too hard on people. I would probably turn away more cars than I let in. I guess Ill just stick to convincing my friends with cool traditional cars to take them next year.

To be fair, the monster shop class clothes pin on the last car is humorous. Thats why my wife took the picture anyhow...

    yes...^^^ very good breakdown.

Now, before you slam me for my post count, just know ive been a lurker for years, have been into traditional rods+customs since my dad introduced me and my bro as kids. i have been mostly a VW guy my whole life, but my other interstes lie here. i have been in the industry for 19 years, own my own shop, and have helped run, and organize 3 shows, and have been to the HUNNERT for 5 years now.... so with that said...
    ..
..my $.02 is, yes some cars get through that shouldnt be there,(i was in this year with my fairly stock, but lowered, patinad and v8'ed p/U).. honestly, the bad ones are REAL easy to spot, and it does make me wonder a bit how they get by. but remember folks, the guys"missing the plot" as my brother and i say, are allot of the ones that keep this scene alive, and spawned its major growth recently. yes, it is lame that the newcomers try way to hard to shock, and slap some crap together to fit in, but, they pay for parts, they save rusty cars, thy pay to get in shows, they buy magazines etc... remember everyone starts somewhere, and most of you guys would probably not want to show off your first attempt.;), as others said, you could just skip by those cars...thats what i do. what i found interesting though, as that people would be crowded around some pile of junk, and ignoreing a REALLY well done rod example, in this case, for those that were there, it was a black, with green accents, 30-31 modelA with a flathead, all period correct stuff, appeared to be original paint, with a blended chop into the patina, car was "spot on". and as i stood there drooling, people walked right past it to some hack job......

...remember the lame-os usally start to get it after a while, and up there builds,as they learn the ins-and outs of traditional rods+customs.

Hey lets remember its for charity. The majority of the general public does'nt "get it" either so while they are all crowding around the shit it makes it easier for us to see the cool stuff!

I have seen on sevral other automotive forums the pile up described as a Rat Rod show many of those Bozos dont know what the HAMB even is.

Really? If it were not for the lesser we would all have the most.

on a side note, I saw Grote holding hands with a cross-dresser, that is why the Pile Up is cool.....the oddities really come out of the wood work.

p.s. Mike Russco has the most traditional car in the world and no longer likes girls.

I was just thinking the same thing as I was playing around on Google...ChevyTalk, Truckin... whenever there is a mention of the Hunnert the words rat rod are close behind.

[ ] Wishes more of these existed.

[x] Wishes State Police had portable electro-magnet cranes at all exits leading into the Hunnert.

Hi, I've got nothing useful to add to this post except the following:

    I like cars.
    I like car people.
I have no idea what I'm doing behind the camera- but I'm there anyway.
I had my Hunnert Cherry popped this year- and it was good.
I'm happy to see that my pictures could summarize the Hunnert for y'all so well. :)

    Yay, first post over.

It's AMAZING how many people have NOTHING to add to the HAMB for months or YEARS yet feel compelled to crawl out of the woodwork to comment on a drama fill, negative thread.

Perhaps the Czars should just consider the event entry for both hot rods/customs and spectators alike pre-entry just like a concert or sporting event. So many tickets will be sold for car entry and so many for spectators....you buy your ticket in advance like a ball game. Extreme control of the numbers and quality.

So a few turds got in. BIG DEAL. There were HUNDREDS of decent cars there! Over a thousand.

    GET OVER IT.

I'll tell you how they get in... They don't break any of the rules and when you have two seconds to sticker a car or get run over that is all you have to go by.

You "lurker" newbies are getting on my nerves also. IF you have been lurking you would know better than to make your first post anywhere but the intro forum.

And for you proponents of "rat rods", more power to you, but this is NOT a rat rod site so get some education or beat it.

This thread SUX and I'm putting a bullet in it's head.
