It dawned on me that we never made an official announcement this year! Yep, it's less than 4 months until the 5th Annual Hunnert Car Pileup, the Midwest's Greasiest Car Show! Nothing but traditional hot rods and customs... and, of course, music ...and food ...and dancing ...and drinking ...and shopping!!! October 14, 2006 in Morris, IL, just a bit SW of Chicago If you're unfamiliar with the show, it's hosted by the Chrome Czars Motor Club (Chicago), with help from a LOT of friends (like the Blacktop Barons, Suedes, and Voodoo Kings). When we say "traditional hot rods and customs" we mean it! If it doesn't meet the criteria listed on the website, it ain't getting in! I also need to note that we snugged up the criteria this year, so just because you got in last year, doesn't mean you'll get in this year. Basically, we just defined things more clearly... no more art cars or stock/stock-looking cars will be allowed in. The Voodoo Kings Car Club will be hosting a flame throwing show again this year and we're trying to organize a DRAG RACE the day after the Pileup (Sunday, 10/15) for Pileup attendees... Put Up or Shut Up, dig? But we don't have anything definite yet. You'll know as soon as we know! We're also working with PeterPanofChicago to try (again) to plan a Pinstripers event. We'll add details as soon as we have something solid. Hopefully it won't be so cold this year. Of course we, once again, have a killer musical lineup: Friday night (10/13): Hot Rod Hucksters... Mine, Django, and OleMuleSkinner's band... (rockabilly; Chicago/Joliet) and Psychobilly Kadillaks (classic country drinking band; Chicago-ish) Saturday at the Pileup (10/14): Ace Brown & His Helldivers (rockabilly from Ohio) and Baron Von Otto Matic (surf from Iowa) and Hillbilly Idle (rockabilly; Chicago) Saturday Nite: The Goldstars (60's garage rock... sometimes with Go-Go girls; Chicago) and The Stranger (punk; Chicago) Get all the other details at http://www.HunnertCarPileup.com !! Some of the vendor info is wrong. We're working on correcting the site. Tables and chairs will be available for rent to vendors. FOUR MONTHS... so get wrenching! (or saving your gas money)
if myself and bobby bleed have anything to say about it i will drive my hot rod in, for its first show byu then... if not, i will ride my harely..
I'm looking forward to this year's show already. I've been to all four, and they just keep getting better. Glad you're tightening down on the criteria though. Some cars were pretty "street rodish" last year - nice...but just kinda out of place. One thing to mention though, if you haven't heard - hotels are fillin' up pretty quick! If you're in the area - even if you're not....don't miss this show! Good luck on this year's Pileup, and thanks for hosting a great event. Kamp
I WILL be driving out in my sedan from NJ.....its my drop dead date...if not i promise a webcast suicide by engine hoist.
We were first timers last year and it's something I look forward to every year now. It's a great time and we'll be there again this year.
Any chance they will have I-44 put back together by then? It's a joke. I realize that I-44 has never been a completed road. Maybe you Texas guys can lump up and meet up with us along the way? We can probably put a few people up if your expectations are incredibly low... TZ, check your PM's.
FLAME THROW'N ! Man I almost pissed my pants. You guys had me before that, but now its a quest; the quest for fire.
Damn...four months! I better get going! Its looking like the truck wont make it down this time around ...next year...maybe?
We *may* be going, out of Roanoke VA...would like to hook up with some other folks headed that way. That's assuming I can get my truck done..............
It is on my must do list this year. Gotta start lelling my plasma now to afford the GAS for the SURBURBAN
Now that I know the Model A gets 9-10 mpg on the highway, I might have to drive the shoebox (it gets 16-17 mpg)....but at any rate I'm going to try to make it this year!!
There aren't any campgrounds close by, but in the past, the Fairgrounds have allowed limited camping in the field/parking lot in front of the fairgrounds. I don't know if they'll allow that this year or not. We'll have to look into it.
If those zipcode cruisers aren't into making the trip you really should come yourself. You had a GREAT time at the HRR right?? This show is just as cool! Don't forget your moonshine.
You missed the giant fiberglass skull on a bare chassis with a Hemi doing wheel stands and shooting flames?!? It was trailered the 50 miles to Morris. Anyway, we don't allow art cars or trailered cars, so you won't see it in the show again this year.
That wasn't a Hemi. It was an OLDS 455 Toronado chassis turned around backwards with some goofy ass sheet metal over the top to look like a Hemi. You didn't see him trying the 4 wheel steer?
If I'm not on the west coast I figure to be there. But if you tightened up the parameters does that mean I'll get turned away again since my '62 is bagged and my wires are from the late '70s? I guess the Zettle bros are out too huh?
I tried to avoid seeing him at all. Harry, your car is fine. The Zettles are bringing their new car... and there's no doubt that it meets all the criteria.
