I really think if the pileup was moved up a week or 2 sooner it would make all the difference and make the weather pretty nice. Im not complainin though. As long as there is a Hunnert Car Pileup and as long as im there, thats all that matters.

If the offical pileup date was made to be the weekend after the Newport hillclimb you would significantly increase your chances of having better weather. Why do you think farmers plant 110 to 115 day corn and not 120 day corn in central Illinois? Because those 5 days make a world of difference come October. That is just the way the weather works. Sometimes you luck out, most of the time.....not. You only have so many days before Axl Roses' November Rain comes in. Ha Ha Ha

The Pileup has always been the 2nd weekend in October. The first year it was in the 50s-60s, the next 2 years it was in the mid 70s, last year it was back to the 50s. The Fall is a crapshoot in IL. It was 80 degrees on Halloween 2 years ago. Last year it was in the 50s. We have it the second weekend in October because a week earlier and we'd be competing with people making a choice of us or the Ducktail and unable to do 2 weekends in a row.
Just for future planning purposes, The James Dean Run and Ducktail is always the last full weekend in Sept. So, let's say if October 1st falls on a Sunday, those events will be the weekend before. Newport is always the first weekend in October. The weather for Ducktail/Dean is always shitty. (The week before is perfect) The weather for Newport is always nice. Hell, I'm just glad to be here to be able to go to the PileUp, fuck the weather....
exactly. For the record, it was in the 70s this past weekend. The weather this time of year is random. The first weekend isn't always nice anymore than the 2nd weekend is always bad. Like I said 2 of 4 past Pileups have been sunny and warm (mid 70s). It is easier for people to remember "2nd weekend in October" than dates that change every year. There's always one weekend inbetween the Ducktail and the Pileup. Sometimes the weather is good, sometimes it isn't

I found this out at Mokan last august. I am not thrilled about missing the swap on saturday. This sucks. But the Pile Up will be worth it, cold or rain. Or snow

Everyone is complaining, but last year the HIGH was 48 and it was cloudy and damp. This year is sunny and 10° WARMER... with SUN!

No, not you Eyeball, but in general it seems like it. When we go up to Trimont MN in October to see my wife's family, it seems it always snows and we are NEVER ready for that so early in the year down here.
i woke up to snow on the ground here this morning. hell, it looks like it is snowing right now! i hate winter but i'll tough it out for the Pile Up.
I work just down the road from the fairground where the show will be, and it is snowing here now. Not to bad though
