This quote of his seems fitting...

"The Edge... there is no honest way to explain it because the only people who really know where it is are the ones who have gone over. "

    Rest in peace...

Anyone familiar with his writting is probably not surprised that he would go that way. I've read most of the stuff he has written. Been a fan since "Fear and Loathing" was serialized in "Rolling Stone" in the seventies. Fine line between genius and madness, sometimes they co-exist. R.I.P.

Read his book on the Hell's Angel's when I was 13 in '75. Johnny Depp lived with the guy to get that method acting down straight. Look deeper. Say a prayer for his soul, taking your own life is sad and a sin.

  11. Who the **** cares? Sorry ray, but he hinted at that for all his life. I say CHEER!!!!!!!!!!!! He finally made good on his word. And this has to do with the HAMB in what manor??????????????????

Sandra Dee has also past away. That might, almost, maybe be HAMB related. hehe ;)

Sounds like ol' Hunter S. Thompson was a coward back in the 60's and 70's too...

The Edge, my signature line on another board.
I remember all the stories in ******* like Shark hunting in Mexico. And the red 454 Caprice convertable, what did they call that car?
I also remember an article he wrote in PB during the VietNam war. He said we should be dropping Cadillacs and color TVs instead of bombs. Then once those people had something in life to live for maybe they wouldn't be so anxious to fight anymore. Cl***ic Hunter. A true icon of 70s pop culture, and one of Sandoz labs better customers.

  18. "The Shark", last pictures I saw of him, he still had it.

Gracie was tellin me bout that and at first I didn't know who she was talking about and then later it hit me. I remembered my mom telling me about how is was a "nut". I have'nt read any of his work but I'm going to have to pick something up this afternoon. I've heard that the movie Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas was horrible compared to the book. I hope it's true because the movie was great.

"We had two bags of gr***, seventy-five pellets of mescaline, five sheets of high-powered blotter acid, a saltshaker half-full of cocaine, and a whole galaxy of uppers, downers, laughers, screamers... Also, a quart of tequila, a quart of rum, a case of beer, a pint of raw ether, and two dozen amyls. Not that we needed all that for the trip, but once you get into a serious drug collection, the tendency is to push it as far as you can."

    RIP

  20. Of course it has nothing to do with the HAMB, but definetly one of my all time favorite writers. Was he disturbed, yes, was he an addict, yes. Was this ending a possibility all along, sure it was. In my worthless opinion he will surely be missed. Maybe I'll throw my 22oz Road Dog Ale(HST's beer with artwork by Ralph Steadman) in the fridge and drink it while reading some of my favorite articles and stories.

My favorite blurb from F&L on the Campaign Trail 72

"Nixon is so crooked that he has to screw his pants on in the morning."

    Farmall

    RIP Dr. Gonzo

I'm really glad to see a post about this here. Entirely appropriate.

I have this creative writing cl***. Last Thursday one of the students read a short story he wrote. It was about being a rookie reporter and going to witness an execution. Lots of vivid details. A really good writer. I usually won't say much in cl***. But I had to speak up and pay the kid a compliment. Told him it reminded me of Thompson. And now Thompson's gone. Kind of eerie.

As far as Gonzo movies go, "Where the Buffalo Roam" with Bill Murray is another great one, outside of Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas. Peter Boyle kills me.

I never could stand to read Doonesbury, but I know they had some sort of Thompson character in there too.

Maybe if everyone on this board actually read books, (instead of just looking at the pics in Ol Skool Rods), we would be able to understand HALF of the posts.

Hunter Thompson was a good writer...maybe misguided, but a good writer. Any writer that makes you want to read more, is OK by me. My parents taught me what is right and what is wrong.....not Hunter.

Number one problem with our society today.....plugging the kids into a video game....it's TOO far to drive them to the library. Better yet, let em walk!

  30. Wasn't "Hunter S. Thompson" also the username of one of the HAMB members? Same guy, or just someone who admired his work?
