I'm with Tman, Sam, and Petejoe on this one.

    How's this:
Hunter S. Thompson's suicide might make a bigger "splash" than Sapulding Gray's.

There was no point in fighting -- on our side or theirs. We had all the momentum; we were riding the crest of a high and beautiful wave. So now, less than five years later, you can go up on a steep hill in Las Vegas and look West, and with the right kind of eyes you can almost see the high-water mark -- the place where the wave finally broke and rolled back.

I'll miss the good doctor, I grew up reading Hunter and Jack Kerouac. Jack drank himself to death and now Hunter sticks one in his brain.

I was walking thru the bar that I've just just finished constructing for a friend of mine yesterday looking around admiring our handwork, our craftmanship and one phrase came to mind.

Thompson wrote far more about politics and questioning leadership than drugs or alcohol. I saw him speak in Toronto in the mid-80s, and he would not discuss Fear and Loathing, he only wanted to talk about football and politics.

    So long, Uncle Duke.

The guy was a s***bag. I hated him... Seriously - despised him.

Politically, he might as well been French... or a communist.

Personally, he stabbed just about everyone he knew in the back at one time or another (& now even his wife).

Professionally, he was a liar and a cheat. Stole thousands from RollingStone Magazine.

He was a hell of a writer though... And Fear and Loathing Las Vegas is a great movie...

Can Germ still copy him now that he is dead?

There's no relevence to hotrods and customs, but I think it's pretty sad if you just shrug your shoulders at the news of somebody's death, whatever the cir***stances.

As someone has already mentioned, he was creative and a trailblazer, that's a good enough reason for him to be included here in my eyes.

sad some of the comments here.

hunter thompson was much more than a drug addict. the drugs etc. was a tool he used to get through to young lost minds like myself, and turn them on politically. it worked. he did drugs, but was not the dope fiend he led one to believe from some of his writings.

this is much more than the death of a man, this is a nail in the coffin of the american dream, when hunter thompson loses hope in the world, why should i have hope that things will get better?

It just occurred to me that Hunter S. Thompson has nothing to do with old hot rods or kustoms... And that this post could lead to high dramatics that could take away from that cool belly tank post, or the pics of that '29 project... I like both of those posts better than this one.

If you'd prefer to talk about liberal notions and folks that talk **** about the PRESIDENT of the United States of America, I suggest you do it with the rest of the ***s here:
