This is a great time of year in MI. I love to be out wandering in the woods when the colors are this fabulous & the air is cool & crisp. My hunting buddy Bill was in from an overseas assignment & along with his daughter Megan, we hit the woods up in Lewiston, MI. The leaves weren't down yet, so you really can't see jack in there & that's our excuse for only getting 1 lousy grouse. I didn't care, because I thought that it was good to be out in the woods with the dogs for the 1st time in a couple of years. The bonus to the weekend came when I ventured to the west side of the state, to an old-time scrap yard that Hiser (Dustyoldbodyman) told me about. He was there a couple of weeks ago with his kids. What a trip!!! I hope that they had as much fun as I had! I posted more pics on our club website.
Oh, Yeah!! I was there 6-7 years ago and got what had to be the last usable set of '61 chevy junkyard fenders in the state out of there. I could not believe I found them! The place is full of stuff... trick is - no phone - no sign - no formal hours - no organization at all and these guys know where EVERYTHING is. Lots of it is nearly un usable now, but there is still a little bit of stuff left.
You've GOT to take me there this fall. I'm looking for a couple of things in particular. I'll call you tomorrow night to discuss.
Safari-Wagon, cool shots. When i was young, I thought I might be considered a little weird, 'cause I loved wandering through junkyards, as WELL as looking in all the fencerows and ravines on farmers' land where I hunted. It got into my blood and NEVER left. I just wish the vintage tin here in the Buckeye State hadn't mostly rusted away decades ago!
I agree with ya Jimi, it's a sickness you never get outta your blood. It's kind of like searching for pirate treasure! This time, I got the treasure, because I got another grille for the '49 White shop truck! I posted a few more pics here: MI Junkyard
