I was on my way to install a 392 Chrysler in this one until I switched to building a dragster. I got as far as a 46 ford rear axle in it then junked it.

I had paid $35 for it so there wasn't too much of a loss.

(Good looking kid next to it huh? Ah, so long ago!)

I remember seeing one rodded in a magazine back in the 70s... possibly Rod Action Magazine... I read it a lot back then when Tex Smith was working there. It may have been older than yours...maybe a '25, but it looked cool.

    Right.

You might give this one a few hours, or a few days, maybe. There's a few out there, but not many.

Hupps do have their following, though. They're good looking and well made cars, and they make interesting hot rods.

Just might have to give this thread a BTTT every day or so to get noticed.

    Later, *****6

Damn, I wish I would have gotten a picture of the 3 window coupe that was at the H***IE show a couple years ago. Made me consider a trade.

I had a 28 sedan many years back. A sad looking field find that got sold to a young friend. He has now finished college, has a great paying job and a new wife. He has high hopes of building a nice ride out of it any day now. I wish him luck.

About 10 years ago I saw Linda Vaughn at Good Guys, Pleasanton riding around in a late '30s Hupmobile. I had to walk up to her and ask what kind of car it was.
The car was purple and while not a true hot rod, it looked to be a nicely built street rod.
Sadly, I didn't take a picture or even think to get an autograph...

There are some cool factory Hupmobiles. The problem is it would be a crime to cut up a 3 window to make a hot rod given their rarity. Personally, the 4 doors don't really interest me as hot rod material.

1935 Hupp 517W coupe - these used the Ford Model 40 cabriolet body with the Model 40 3 window coupe top welded on - so had frameless suicide opening doors but used Hupp 117 " wb ch***is, L head 6 engine. Fenders and hood were also hupp items and this was hupmobile's economy line introduced in 1934 at the same time as the avant garde Aero Dynamic Hupps designed by Raymond Loewy....

I have plans to build "The Hubba Hubba",it will be a shiny painted lady.
I picked up a few years back for a very fair cost, 1917 Hup roadster cowel used in a sloopy mock up in last pic/plus first pic before they stick it together, and other parts from a few places, but mock up was great for the parts after taking it back apart and cleaning the really bad work and welds and holes up,,it was only a mock-up,also found a 1924 Hup grill shell, its pretty nice looking too, plus got hold of a lower part of windsheild frame.
It's a project I'm planning on doing after I get my own old rod rebuilt.;)
    Should make a interesting rod.

One of the best but most overlooked makes of all time. To the top.

Chris VERMEULEN from the Sunshine Coast is a car lover. The former 2005 World Supersport champion, 2006 World Superbikes second place getter and former World MotoGP rider lives north of here at Yandina on the Sunshine Coast.

He has a 1929 Hupmobile that was a sedan and built locally by Central Park Street Rods. SB Mopar & auto with Jag suspension. Chris also has a nice red 54 F100, a yellow 33 Ford coupe and 28 Ford tourer and a 57 Buick coupe. Just can't find a photo!!
