Forecasted Maximum Sustained Wind Data for the City of Houston by Zip Code http://houstonhidefromthewind.org/
We are in the eye wall path about a hour North of the beach. Winds just now starting to gust. Not that worried about my house, I own a building company so I over engineered the house to meet Inland one wind conditions. What I do worry about is my metal shop full of cars. I have not only my hotrods, but two of my friends are storing their cars for the duration of the storm. I think it will be ok..but we will see after the sun comes up in the morning. What usually causes the damage in this area is tornadoes spawned off the dirty side wind rotation. I will keep you guys posted in the am if we have electricity. Cheers Chad
Officials are estimating that 11,000 people have decided to stay in Galveston. Police have warned them that they "face certain death" and told them to write their Social Security number on their arm. Ike's intensity is expected to increase from its present Category 2 to a Category 3. The outer wall of the eye of the hurricane is due to arrive on land within the next hour. The Fox News crew on the shore in Galveston is now measuring gusts of 120.
Blowing about 40 right now at our house north of Houston - supposed to get up to about 57 tomorrow morning. Galveston is getting HAMMERED - supposed to have storm surge about 20 ft - a lot of the island is already flooded. Rita caused about $4 billion in damages. They're estimating about 40-80 billion in damages from this dude!!!!
Thought and prayers are with all of you guys and gals, your families as well .I have family and friends in galveston, houston, katy, friends wood etc. I tried to get several to hit th road yesterday and come down but they all seemed to think they would be ok, my galveston friends left for sure, but my houstonian friends did not. I hope everyone is doing well, as I can not get ahold of anyone at this time on their cell or home phones, email etc. im sure that is the least of their worries at this point, but I always try to help anyway I can even if I am 200 miles or more away. The last report I just heard, was well over 125 mph winds at building levels. One report even said cat 4 winds at building levels as well. I do think the coast will get the brunt of it. I live in Corpus Christi, a little about 200 miles south of galveston, and we have several piers here, and they have pretty well been demolished, and that is 200 miles away. Our beaches are gone, water to the dunes, and beyond. Flooding in all the low lying areas, and small coastal towns, who had mandatory evacs. We were personally out in Port Aransas and North Padre Island this afternoon, and it was an awesome sight, but a complete loss to the areas we were in. I will keep everyone in my prayers, and I hope everyone and their families stay safe. If anyone is outta there and in the corpus area drop me a line 361-249-6633.. wmodglin at grandecom.net Will
From just north of Gulfport, MS...my thoughts and prayers are with y'all in the Galveston/Houston area.
I moved from Houston a little over a year ago and lots of friend down in the Gulf Coast region. My prayers are with all of you. I pray for your safety. Stay Texas Strong!
I bailed. I live in Clear Lake at the back door of NASA. I'm in Dallas with friends waiting it out. Glad to see Johnny and Kali got north - I was wondering what you were doing. I grew up in Seabrook and Clear Lake and have seen way too many bad storms. This one looked like it would top anything I've seen. I left Houston Thursday around noon.
