    Hey guys,

I'm in the middle of installing a Hurst Competition Plus shifter in my 62' Biscayne. I have a Borg Warner Super T-10 trans and the corresponding install kit. I have the 1-2 and 3-4 rods and arms in, no problem. When i went to install the reverse arm, the reverse button won't clear the 1-2 button to fit into the shifter. See attached photos. Should I have installed the reverse arm first? Is there a trick to this I am missing?

Also, anyone have any tips for getting the little clip up onto the 3-4 arm? I tried for about a half hour last night and couldn't get it. That one faces in toward the trans, so a.) I can't really see the hole in the arm and b.) I need to contort my arms/hands up in there to reach.

    Thanks,

were there no written instructions? I've installed a lot of Hurst C+ shifters and have never experienced the problem you're describing.

There were written instructions, followed them to a T. It shows all buttons at the shifter facing in (toward the passenger side). If you look in the photos I attached, to me it looks like the reverse lever may be bent a bit?

I have a Muncie with a Comp Plus, so this may not apply, but for what it's worth. My instruction blow-up drawing shows the 1-2 and 3-4 buttons outboard (clips inboard) as you have them, but the reverse button goes inboard, ie from the transmission side, with the clip outboard. It's close, and still a little tricky, but when in and clipped, it clears everything. I'm betting it's the same on your BW tranny.
RE the clip, tough to do blind. Remember that you can't push on the outer "C" of the clip, as doing so only closes the gap further. If you can hold the inner part with needle nose pliers, it'll be easier. Jack that puppy up, put a good jackstand under it, and get under there to see what you're doing. It'll be easier in the long run.

  7. Bend the arm. Put the shifter in reverse. Put the tranny in reverse. Install arm!!

Now I remember why I usually pull the tranny to install and time a shifter.

Can you pull the alinment pin out so you can move the reverse lever then put the linkage on?

Hey salt, that's my next move. It can be done, I was just following the instructions where it says to do everything from neutral. My concern is it will conflict when shifting. I'm going to try this first and see.

Quick update: I removed the alignment pin, engaged reverse on the trans and put the shifter in reverse. I then installed the reverse button backwards from the instructions as suggested to avoid interference with the 1-2 button during shifting. Got that last bastard clip installed and adjusted everything. Seems to shift smooth and operates great. Thanks everyone!
