Did a search and can't find the answer. Does the typical Hurst Front Engine Mount (the one with the dual bolt pattern) for the SBC/BBC also work on the 348/409 engines? Thanks for any help.
i've got a Tardel hurst copy hanging off my 409 it uses the big block hole set. my 63 340hp isn't drilled on one side though.
So you're saying you have the typical Hurst/Tardel mount bolted to a 409 but some of the blocks may not be drilled for it depending on the year? We want to use this style mount on a 1958 348, my brother is on his way home from Georgia with it. I'll have to look at it when he gets home. Thanks.
Well, it doesn't matter now. Just talked to my brother, he's not bringing it home. Engine was not what it was supposed to be. http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/threads/chevrolet-348-tri-power-engine.936211/ One cylinder was pitted like crazy, one had 8-10 nicks in it you could feel with your fingernail, the head that wasn't shown in the pics had pitted valves. Carbs were froze up. This was supposed to be a rebuilt engine. It wouldn't even turn over, it was stuck! Drove almost 11 hours, one way, to go pick it up. Price was $2000!
I think the original Hurst saddle mounts were dual pattern for the SBC AND the W-motors, of the time. The BBC uses a different pattern, and so a different mount (?). Will a dual pattern even fit a BBC (not the W-motors)? I am Butch/56sedandelivery.
Not cool at all - that tough to hear you guys invested in the ride down - but at least your brother inspected it first!
The small block one is not the same ,but i have a 348-409 mount i bought with a bunch of parts at a flea market i would part with
