Quite a bit of difference in price between these two to convert my column three speed to floor. Since the folks at Summitt didn't answer my email regarding them, do any of you have an opinion as to whether the Mastershift is worth the difference? Thanks
An old Dual Pattern is the best way to go and are easy to come by,,Indys SUCK,,if that or Master go with the master
Those indys have been pieces of crap for 30 years. Once they get a bit of wear and you get enthusiastic they start jamming up. Judging by the price difference the mastershift is akin to their more reliable competition+ line of 4 speed shifters, but I know nothing about em otherwise. good luck either way (you'll need it with the indy)
Take a looky here,,They were the First 3 speeds Hurst built,,very good heavy Duty shifters http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=305115&highlight=hurst+tech
I'm looking to convert a 66 chevy pickup over from column shift. Would it be best to buy a new one with instructions?
The Mastershift is basically the same design as the Syncro-Loc that preceeded it (most of them have "dual pattern with syncro-loc" stamped in the shifter body). Either one is a good shifter. I agree that you should ignore the Indy shifter; it looks like it was designed to compete pricewise with the cheap Sparkomatic shifters that used to flood the market.
Sounds like good advice. I don't like cheapo stuff, just didn't find anybody who could tell me the difference till I came over here!
Satans telling you right a syncro loc will be better than anything you can buy new. They are pretty much like a competion plus but for 3 speed. They are way over built and have stops built into the shifter. You'll never have a problem with one of them if you install it correctly. You might have to build a bracket and rods depending on what it's going in.
well for the 4 bolt trans you are using they make several kits that put the shifter forwards or back on the tail shaft,,the tailshaft you have will make a difference as to mounting
