Damn, is that all that is inside of a HVLP Turbine (the Ametek unit) ???

If so, I will build my own unit ! !

I knew a guy that used a turbine system to paint airplanes, they came out very nice, he would turn it up and coat a wing in 2 passes, turn it up more and dust the entire wing again and it would all lay down nicely as it cured.

Can you do the TP gun as well? I'm curious how well the gun that comes with their system works.

Working on adding it. If you guys are really interested I will get the part numbers for the right turbines to use. I used to use Ametek but have since gone to Electro-Motor.

i joined this site because i am fascinated by the turbine painting systems. I am generally a do it yourself guy, i plan to paint at least 5 cars a year. i have never painted anything before so i'm completely new, my uncle owns a body shop where i've seen them paint for a few years.
i don't have a garage so i may be painting outside, may get a tent in that event. I am all for building the turbine ourselves and would get started as soon as there is a guideline set. Looking forward to working with you guys.

    Hey Guys,
Update on the testing. Fuji is on board with their "T" series gun. I have to update my Ametek part numbers as they changed recently. I will get them up hopefully this afternoon yet. Man oh man what did I talk myself into......

Ok the current part numbers for the Ametek turbines are as follows:

    3-stage 116565-13
    4-stage 119212-00

The biggest pain is going to be machining the adapter that literally is glued into the outlet of the turbine. This adapter ends with a standard male garden hose fitting, and is a simple lathe job. I am in the process of re-building one of my ATI turbines, I will take some photos of is to show the air paths and give some ideas for building a wooden version. The use of standard 13" automotive air cleaners will keep the cost down, you need 2 though. One for the intake air path, and one for the motor cooling air path. The pictures will make it pretty clear. The Fuji mini-mite turbine type design would be the easiest to copy in wood, and maybe I can do that as a future tech article. Later!.

Hey guy's I have a TP turbine sprayer and have shot flake, candies, pearls as well as primer, sealer and waterborne primers and have had no problems. Well worth the $600.00 I spent.
P.S. uses less material than HVLP and conventional spray guns with less overspray!

I am interested as well. TIP and TP originally used a Sicmo gun, now they use one that is a kind of Sicmo hybrid as it looks. If they are using the same front end parts (nozzle and aircap) as the Sicmo I am sure it shoots fine. They have not gotten back to me yet on giving their current gun a place in the "shoot out".

My gun is first generation as the unit is apron. 12 years old it was on of the first gravity feed guns.

Is the needle packing adjustment extermal or internal? The external ones have a hex headed packing nut, the interal ones have a slotted nut that requires a special tool to adjust.

Here is a real good deal on a 4 stage.

If and when I get some extra time, I'm going to buy one of these and build my own unit. I have a Accuspray Model 10 gun to try it with.

    Stay tuned,

    VR&C.

    Hi Gary,
What progress are you looking for? I am working on the gun review now. Going to take a couple weeks at least with what I want to put them through. I have a turbine that's going back together next week and will take detailed photos of the case construction for the homebuilders. Unfortunately things like working, and kids.....seem to delay such things :)

I understand about everything else needing attention. I'm upgrading my old Accuspray single stage turbine with a 3 stage. Just interested in any info I can pick up.

I have the TP turbine 2 gun set up only used it a couple of times painting some machines I build work great next to nothing in over spray & used 1/2 the material I was use to using. Have some fenders in the short future & a couple of completes in the future it came with the 33 ft hose according to TP I can add up to 20 ft with out psi drop, I want the turbine farther away from the paint area. There's is a 2 stage turbine & if you run a 3 or 4 stage turbine the psi goes up so then you have more overspray & bounce back. Just thought I would pass that TP info on.

I'll be waiting patiently for what you come up with. I know all about the demands of life and lately for me health issues as well.

If not for that I would have had my RPU built 3 times over already :)

Bought the TP turbine over a year ago finally tried it out this week sprayed high build primer with the siphon gun 1.8mm nozzle and after some playing with the adjustments worked great and hardly any overspray.I was afraid to purchase this HVLP system but in the end a good choice.

I bought a 3 stage turbine and built a container for it with a remote switch. I will try to get a couple of pictures tomorrow.
