I am not sure what your take was on my brief comment. But just in case the point was missed....The question was "how many times can do you do this before something bad happens? A prior poster said "once"...my point was merely that the chances are you can't expect to get away with it even "once"......

Whether or not you choose to run without a hood or adequate protection for you engine is your business and my comment was not directed at you and/or your cir***stances......just the likely outcome whenever, and for whatever reason, a significant amount of liquid gets into a cylinder and the engine is cranked.

I learned this lesson about 1967 when I was working at a Ford store and the shop manager flipped a new Ford F-600 cab & ch***is. I took the wrecker out and recovered the truck. After unhooking it from the wrecker back at the dealership, I attempted to start it to back it into a storage position.

"eruhhnt" or some such sound, and it wasn't turning over. Of course oil ran into one or more cylinders while it was upside down and a bent rod was the result. At least in this case, it wasn't a financial disaster as the truck was a brand new sold unit and wasn't going to get fixed for resale anyway. The insurance company just took it away.

But still, a perfectly good engine was damaged by my youthful ignorance. A lesson I have never forgotten, but have seen many more examples over the years, usually due to the misfortune of running into deeper water than expected.
