Just wanted to thank the hamb and all the Motorheads on here! Searched for a couple years for this yoke elsewhere with no luck. Posted here and had a line on one in two hours. Had it in the model a in three days! Thanks again! Posted using the Full Custom H.A.M.B. App!
What. No pictures of your project? There are so few Hydramatic trans in hotrods these days… Also, there's a good bunch of info here: http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/group.php?groupid=791
If you stumble onto another one let me know, I have been looking for one for the last few months also to no avail. Good thing is I have plenty of time before I need it. Anyone with an orphan out there that needs a home?
Looks really good! I've got a 54 Olds and hydro in my 34. How are you planning on shifting it? And did you have the original kick down linkage for the trans? Really important to make sure it gets set up properly so you don't burn it up. I dig the big Spacecraft sticker in the background too. I've got a few of those myself. Good company! Cayorv, I have heard of a couple hydros around, one was in yerington nv, I think I saw it on reno craigslist. Speedy Canuck. I'm am searching for a shifter, not quit sure what I'm gonna do about that. I think I'm just going to build something to shift with. I do not have the original linkage do you have something? I keep getting conflicting info on the kickdown linkage. I was hoping that I could just leave it unhooked. What is it and how does it work? The old timer that I work with and Who I ask questions says that he used to use the hydros for drag racing way back and he never had it hooked up and they ran fine but he also admits he doesn't know that much about these old transmissions I really could use some reliable info. The link that I included in my earlier reply takes you to the Hydro Tech group. There's a lot of useful info and pictures there. You'll see a lot of pictures of different shifters, and that should give you some insight on building one. Here's the link again: http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/group.php?groupid=791 As for the kickdown linkage, it is VERY important on a street driven car. It controls the throttle pressure for the transmission and affects how hard or soft the transmission shifts. Yes, for drag racing, it is ok to leave the kickdown off. Most of those guys would either fix the throttle pressure lever in the full open position, or would have a wire cable to pull it full open for racing. If you leave the kickdown linkage off on a street driven car, you'll burn up the transmission in short order. The shifts will bang hard and will feel clunky. In that group, on the second page, there is a thread titled "B&M Hydro Stick Installation Instructions". It provides great diagrams and instructions on how to fabricate a kickdown linkage and set it up properly.
