I don't know if this helps any at all but here's the adjust ment procedure for a '56. Might give some clue as to where the trans lever is supposed to be in relation to the carbs.

    1. Remove spring clip from carb throttle rod trunion and remove trunion from relay bracket lever

    2. place 1/4" drill shank through gauging hole in dash relay lever and into dash relay bracket

    3. With engine running, set throttle lever in hot idle position. (a/c off)

    4. Adjust carburetor throttle rod trunnion to allow free entry into dash relay lever.

    5. install spring clip in trunnion.

    6. using two wrenches, back off both jam nuts on T.V. rod at carburetor to allow free movement of rod in trunnion.

    7. push end of T.V. rod toward rear of car to position transmission throttle lever against its stop.

    8. Turn front jam nut against the trunnion untilall slack is taken up. Tighten nut 3 full turns for both single and dual carb engines.

    9. Turn rear jam nut into contact with trunnion and use two wrenches to tighten nuts, being careful not to put any binding force on the carburetor plate.

  3. Not sure on the Caddy but my Pontiac adjustment is thus:
there are two links on a common pivot mounted at the rear of the left cylinder head. The throttle rod and the passing gear rod connect to those pivots. The rods have a fitting on them with a cotter pin attaching them to the pivot and a nut on either side of the fitting. To adjust them, you disconnect them from the pivots to take tension off them. That should bring the throttle to the closed position and the passing gear link in a neutral position. The two pivots have a common hole in them that you should be able to slide a 1/4" drill bit(or 1/4" rod)through.Slide that in and adjust the rods(by loosening the nuts and adjusting the length of the rod)until they fit back into the pivots. This should get you at least running. You will probably have to make an adjustment and then try it to see how it is shifting. If it makes it worse, adjust in the other direction.Hope this helps.

if the two carbs open at the same time you could connect the stock TV rod to the center of the linkage btween the two, then follow the factory adjustment procedure, just be glad it's on a caddy, the olds linkage is a rube goldberg set-up on those [IMG]-george
