My question: '59 Cadillac motor with a noisy lifter at startup, will quiet after a couple of minutes. All new parts.
I measured a Chevy v8 lifter & ALL the dimensions are the same (diameter, height & pushrod seat. Oil hole on the body is the same as Cad.
The only difference I can find is the pushrod seat in the Chevy lifter has a hole to feed oil to the pushrod for rocker arm oiling. The Cadillac lifter does not have this hole.
Does it matter ? The Cad pushrod will block this hole. Should not matter, right ?
Why do I ask ? Chevy lifters are half the price of Cadillac's.

Does the rocker shaft get oil from the cam bearing like a BB Mopar?

You have a sticking lifter. Run some marvel mystery oil for a while and it should clear up.

I know that. This stuff is new, shouldn't be sticking.
I don't want to fart around with magic potions, I want to fix it.

If it's new and sticking, there's probably a machining chip or burr in it.

Take it apart and clean it out. If there's no scoring, it should be fine after the cleaning.

You have measured and yes you can swap, but I have seen low cost sbc lifters turn into instant junk..what is the cost difference? If you plan to replace one, get the cad but I would take the noisy one apart like suggested above..

  8. Take it apart and clean it. it's a 15 min job and generally free.
No magic involved and no oddball parts swaping.

I'm looking at Melling lifters at 1/2 of what I paid for the Cad stuff.
I also have a set of Comp lifters on the shelf for another project.

If it's new and you say it is, take the lifters back and get them warranted. Why would you want to put SBC's in when you don't know where the problem is.

  11. Why ask for a guru?

Should ask for someone to agree with you.

Wouldn't it be interesting for you to dis***emble both a caddy lifter and a SBC lifter and see what the difference is? Is there a 2x value?

The other thing is that you'll have a mating and breakin issue if you swap lifters. If you take it apart you won't.
