Any of you guys interested in a gallon of hydraulic lifter test oil ,with original box. Seriously found way in the back of the shop .no idea where it came from or how old it is . Sent from my VS987 using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
Dad use to have a lifter tester, it was really old. It had a big old weight out on an arm, I suspect you put a lifter under it somehow that was filled with your oil, then you checked for leak down or something. The oil was probably a standard so all lifters would check the same way.
I knew someone would have an idea what it as for. I have never heard of checking lifters like that . But that makes sense. Thank you Sent from my 100005207 using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
We still have them at our college, if I was allowed in our shop there I would take pictures. Sent from my iPhone using H.A.M.B.
In the days when hydraulics were new to most makes, factory shop manuals had directions covering repairs. This is the test fluid used after the job is done.
This kinda goes with a post I posted a little while ago. If a lifter has a measurable leak down, that is acceptable, how come you don’t hear several lifters clatter on an engine at start up? Several lifter will have spring pressure on them ant any given point the engine stops. So after it sets , say for a couple of days, how come you don’t hear a lifter clatter? But if you adjust a lifter by screwing down the rocker, it will correct itself in less that a minute? Bones
