so, on my 51 lincoln with hydraulic power windows, it seems to be a little low on hydraulic fluid. I can get all four windows to roll up, but the last one stops with about 2" to go, and I can hear the pump winding up. the pump is an inverted electric motor with a can held on by a wire clip on it similar to an old style fuel filter. does anyone know if i can remove the can and check it out without spilling hydraulic fluid all over the place? And furthermore, should I top it off with brake fluid, or search for a specialty hydraulic fluid?

    thanks in advance,

    Nick

  2. I can't tell you on a lincoln. never worked on one but GM cars you check it with the windows down and the seat back. so all the fluid is in the tank. brake fluid is the norm. If i rebuild and flush the system I switch to atf. it easier on paint when you blow a seal in one of the doors

well, i popped it off and drained the globs of old fluid out, and then changed it , ran everything, and changed it again, should be good for now. thanks for the info.
