I'm putting an 85 Mustang 5.0 & 5 speed in my 56 Fairlane. I want to use a hydraulic throw out bearing. Does anyone know which throw out bearing and master cylinder will work with this. I know I can go to the auto parts and go through the books with them but I figure someone else has already done that, so no need to reinvent the wheel. I also posted this on the main board. Thanks for the help.
If you don't find anything you can try the guys at D&D performance. I talked to them about a hyd throwout bearing for my T56 and they are very knowledgeable on the subject. There is so many different T5's out there that they might need the numbers off the side of the case but I am sure they can get you in the right direction. http://www.ddperformance.com/
You need to contact Todd aka ctfortner here via pm He has recently done the swap in His '56 and has links to the build and pictures to help you out.
I replied to pm also, but I used a hyd master and slave cylinder, not a throwout bearing setup. I also am using a unique trans, tko 600. But let me know what trans your using I might be able to help with some info depending.
For T-5 or tremec trans try Bruce Coutures' " moderndriveline.com" ; they got all conversion parts you need, ie., master to external slave, direct cable or internal slave cylinder. Real good tech support ,too.
Hey go check out this place, I have talked to this guy alot, hes a good guy and should have what you need. This is just like what I used except mines for the TKO. http://dazed.home.bresnan.net/test
Any reason to not use a cable? If you're going the 5.0/ T-5 route, why not adapt a Fox body cable clutch set up to the 56 pedal? That way you could keep a lot of already engineered parts (release fork, bellhousing, adjustable cable etc.). just a thought...
The proper hyd throw out bearing depends on the front bearing retainer of the transmission. This is where the actual transmission numbers for that case/setup are needed by people like D&D. I have also heard good things about moderndriveline.
Did a lot of calling around, RAM Automotive http://www.ramclutches.com/zen-cart/ makes a hydraulic release (throwout) bearing for the T5 trans. Ordered one from Summit for $199. Again, thanks for all the help. http://www.summitracing.com/parts/RAM-78130/ Here's what the kit looks like. I'll post more pictures when I get it and how it installs. Looks pretty simple.
