Did any other car come with the technology of "hydro electric" windows other than Cadillac? I have pulled one of the door panels of the 1950 Cad - that spring that is part of the up and down of the window mechanism is WICKED! Sheesh! Why that incredible torque? That spring is HUGE! It may as well be holding up the hood! I mean it's only a piece of glass that goes up and down -- I had a really strong guy try to compress that spring and couldn't do it... what is up with that? I have seen posts from people that have replaced this system with electric but does anyone keep the system in tact? I imagine that the purist or someone restoring to stock would consider leaving it as is.. I've never owned a car this old so all this stuff is very new to me...
I was under the impression that Hydraulics were only used to put the window up, and that gravity (or the spring) brought it down. But I could be wrong.
How about a 33 Plymouth convertible?...Well one of them did. Back in the 60s a friend had a 33 Plymouth convertible that somebody had added the GM hydraulic power seat and windows. It was powered by a 371 Olds with a hydromatic. It had to be one of the first hot rods to have P/Ws. I think they were a GM design. I know some Buick's had them in the late 40s.
