<style></style>Personally. I'm partial to the suggestion of a boat tail.

  2. so I have been trying to find a good reference shot of a roadster body. The problem is that almost all of them are on 130" WB chassis. I finally found a decent shot of 120" SWB chassis for comparision purposes:

    here is the 130" WB:

I like the Boat tail, but with more fender, and less cowbell.

But if you go with the rear tire, I highly suggest more cowbell!

  7. so I am looking at the roadster aspect, as it is really the quick way to go. I want to make the reliabilty run. Also, if I were to go the vanden plas route (which I really want to), but then I start having to cutting alot of stuff, and it just opens up to many doors.

So, since time on the front side can save alot of time on the back side. So I am going to run down the doorless roadster side for bit and see what I come up with.

  8. one of the problems is that I have only 4 wheels (and 24" shoulder drive Buffalos make Divcos look like wide 5's in terms of commonality), so that leaves a big gapping hole back there, so this is an option:

  9. I am not a huge fan of the height of the box, but I think if it were a little lower and blended it in with the body a bit better, it might look ok.

why do you think you would go to hell?...for trying to reproduce such a beautiful car?...what is the matter with you...are you so insecure you need everyone telling you that you have good taste or something....i just do not understand your stance under a rock...go ahead do it......what are you waiting for....oh...thats right you might go to hell........

  11. Build a tail for it, stretch the doors if you have to to make it comfortable, and drive the snot out of it. Odds are it will be worth more done up nice with a late drivetrain, unless Stearns with half the body missing are now bringing $50K at Barrett-Jackson auctions.

  12. Actually, I would be building something that was never built (or actually that was a style that was cease to be built 2 years earlier) I am torn between building what should be built as opposed to what I want. Mainly as this is (until otherwise proven) The only SWB '25 left in existance.

and was GG Allen really your neighbor?

are you sure it is the last one left?....i understand your concern..don't be scared.yes my band did open for him

  14. Per the stutz club. "Lots" of 130" WB cars of the 4 cylinder variety or the later 8 cylinder cars. Very few 120" cars left, and even fewer 6 cylinder Weidley designed cars, and even fewer 25's or something along those lines.

    sneaky.

  16. Leno only has the Long Wheel Base cars, 130" WB. The roadster with the red running gear is the only other SWB car I have been able to find pictures of. My car is one of the few 120" WB cars. So, I dont have to shorten it to make it look cooler.

Everything in primer is correct for '25 Stutz, except the rear fenders which appear to be slightly later. (there are no model T parts on the car :D)

  19. A nice boat tail, mahogony, chrome and/or brass ala Chris Craft would be pretty classy. I have some friends here who are into the wooden boat and they look so stinkin' cool and classic.

  20. come back to the 707? come back to the mendo first growth? maybe the 510 is doing wierd things to me.

ok..im starting to do some homework....are you trying to build a stutz bearcat or a 693 roadster....seems maybe this was the start of old henery hanging out with the germains...also apears the stutz race was the first rt 66 road race...seems the stutz bearcat was still in development in 1914....bear with me im still trying to learn my history

Most of the discussion so far has been about the body style.
Way back you said you have the engine and running gear. What are your plans for the engine and running gear?
One-offs and specials were and still are the most interesting aspect of the car-hobby/biz.
This one could be a neat "gentleman's" sport racer in the style of the day. Turtle deck big oval tank. Sellers Equipped could dream some neat period style fittings...

  25. This is what really makes this car different from almost every other Stutz, HCS brings in a gentlemen by the name of Wiedley to build a new car (up until now the cars all have been 465 cube 4 cylinder T head motors with transaxles...which HCS pioneered). Wiedley completely redoes the whole mess from the ground up: New Chassis, Engine, Transmission, rear end and Hydraulic brakes. So instead of a 4 cylinder T head, it has a very long stroke crossflow 288 cu in 6, redline is at 3,400 rpm and is rated at 50hp (I think, will check this all when I get home). This is a pretty massive engine (3' tall). Following the practices of the time, it has 4 main bearings (to keep the engine short an rigid). Basically a complete departure from what Stutz had been building up to that point: glorified trucks...just look at an Bearcat next to 35J

The failure behind these cars happens in '25 when Lincoln comes out with thier V8, cause who wants to purchase a 6 cylinder car, when you can have an 8 for the same price.

That all being said, at minimum it is going to get a fast ring and pinion, reground cam, bigger carb, and maybe extraneous fuel vapor compression.
