Projects Hypothetical build question: will I go to hell if I do this...

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by fur biscuit, Mar 2, 2009.

  1. after 4" back to fit me fat ass, going to flip the rear shackles to get the ass end down:

  2. so with the seat cushion out, and 4" back, I almost don't look like a monkey fucking a football:

  3. haven't seen alot of guys cooking up coach built bodies on here, so I hope this has a place.

After some thought and consideration, I am going to whip up a little doorless roadster body: in the style of a early 20's Bearcat/ Mercer. There were a couple of reasons, to build the vanden plas would actually take a lot of time and money to make right cause I would not want to half ass it. Secondly is that I can build it pretty quickly and have it look cool. Finally, roadsters have a disctinctly higher market value as well as a broad appeal base, where as the Vanden Plas, albeight very cool may not be truely understood by the market.

Which brings us to to designing and building a coach built body. I am not going all out ala Soutchik, nor can I claim this will be a completely original undertaking, but it should be HAMB friendly and show that you don't always need to cut the wood out of everything. And good hardwood smells great when you cut it, right? Plus, I haven't seen a single coach built car get documented on here at this point.

    Thanks for all the input.

Or you culd put stutz cars in a search engine

  6. There are only a few books dedicated to them "The Splendid Stutz" and there is a little book on the "Racing Stutz".

Off the top of my head I would say what they are most known for would their founder HCS and his ability to generate slogans and nmes "The Car that made good in day" and "Bearcat"...come on who wouldn't be intrigued?

As an engineering interest the early cars have a transaxle, which was developed and patented by HCS (which also was thier achilles heel, as they liked to snap in two). The 4 cylinder cars are "assembled" cars: meaning that they purchased the components from other firm and designers rather than doing them in house. (minus the rear end) The 6 cylinder cars are nice and well built, but hardly ground breaking. The 8's having nothing really to do with HCS.

Stutz as a compay is probably best remembered for thier host of safety features: low slung chassis and more importantly Safety Glass (most everything had plate glass up till then, and if you have seen plate glass shatter, just imagine that a few inches from your face...)

Racing wise the cars were competitive and won quite a few races, but have nothing in common with the production cars.

(this is a very abridged commentary on the cars and should only be taken at face value, not as wrote)

I like the boat tail thing better, cycle type fenders. You need to get an English wheel and a shrinker/stretcher.
