I prostrate myself before you, oh Fount of Knowledge! A friend recently picked up this dash that he believes is from an REO and neither one of us has a cogent guess as to what this circular grille is for. There is a piece of thick glass about a 1/4” behind it with what looks to be some sort of wired element against it. I figure it’s gonna take less than an hour for the “Fount of Wisdom” to present me with the answer I seek. Ready for the challenge? Time starts...............now! Be well Jeff
Air freshener... Actually it's probably a mic for a period PA system...remember they had telephones already and Radio was in its infancy... There is also the chance it was perhaps added in the trucks service life as things became available...
It's a glow plug indicator, I have one exactly like it on my diesel tractor. You turn the key to the left (non start) position and when the indicator glows red the glow plug is warmed up enabling the diesel to start. Turn the key to the stat position and start mowing (in my case). Pat
Do a search for 'vintage glow plug indicator' or 'salt shaker glow plug indicator' and all will be revealed... But like I said earlier, it would indicate that the dash is from a diesel engine vehicle.
Hah! Having worked in the telephone industry nye on Twenty five years, that’s what it looks like to me too.
Excellent as always however it's not the record! But bugger, this forum one heck of a resource for Rodders, customizes, and restorers!!!!
Reo Speedwagons first dash mount tweeters......When did they have diesels most I looked at had gas maybe it was a wartime model...or a vehicle bigger than a dump truck...your gauge reflects Hotrod Diamond Reo...
