My avatar has been accepted to TROG this year - it will be my first time going. So a great friend of mine Koppy has been helping to prep it to have what they all require. I have no health issues but I am his advocate and take care of everything fir him so there is just no time. Some items I needed : - complete checkup - new clutch - check on my 85k mile flatty - bias ply tires - roll bar - new 5-pt harness - carbs rebuilt - brakes redone - water in rad w/o-flow tank - remove the headlights and side view mirrors - helmet Here she is partly torn down …. … and with the motor out the cylinders looked great still having some cross hatching, no cylinder wall wear to speak of still having much of the criss hatching showing, lifter valley and pan had no sludge - looking just great. So I had a Mercury 10” clutch setup on the shelf that I wanted to put in that was perfect when taken out, got it all balanced, installed, motor and trans back in the car but the 39-pedal setup clutch rid ran into the motor. Koppy made a new one only to find the p-plate was frozen. Out everything came and I got a 10” Ford setup prepped and everything was re-installed. Carbs go rebuilt …. bias ply tires and tubes installed, 600-16 out back, 5:50-16 in front and Koppy got stsrted in the bolt-in roll bar …. with the 5-pt harness … The roll bar fit great - I can still run it with the top off … and tge Jegs labels were removed from the harness as requested by TROG. A battery box was made and all isxat home in the trunk …. …. and she was finally ready fir a test run. She runs like a scared rabbit pulling right up to 3500 rpm, chirping the tires out of first, second, and 3rd - just a whole different car! But like anything else we had a few issues with carbs and the old small didk frogs mouth air cleaners decided to shred sucking some pieces into the carb. I got it all out, but in looking for the air cleaners it seems tge man who mafe them for everyone passed and no one had picked them up yet … I started playing around on my own and came up with the stack style air cleaners could fit nicely in the rubber ring of the air cleaners I had … … but Koppy thought they might be too restrictive for a flatty. So after looking around I decided to make my own. I used the rubber ring and mesh from the present air cleaners and inserted 3/8” race car air cleaner foam … I used my jone mafe windshield gasket helper stick to get the foam in there nice and snug …. foam one on the left, original on the right. I haven’t tested anything yet but I think ut should work out fine. Gotta say my good friend Koppy really was great in pulling this all together as he has had TROG cars in for similar work before. Thank you for everything, man! Just some additional pics I did not post …. The trim rings gave come off and the made the rims a miss so I did a quicky paint job on them….
Looking great . We had a blast at TROG last year whole family there and our son racing his 46 Harley. Just a thought paint or temporary remove the Dutchman logo on the axle . You’re not running a 5 speed are you?
yeah....looked at the rules, no fenders, no 5 speed....I would be driving the car there....without the 5 speed it becomes too long of a trip Have fun @TomT
