i had a guy start arguing withe me at a gas station when i told him my car was a 54 ford. he said, no, no, those are olds tail lights. i am sure that's an olds. he couldn't quite grasp the concept of olds tail lights in a ford...

but, at least he recognized the tail lights i guess. that's more than people usually grasp.

but boy, he was amped up. and yelling. when the tank was full, i replaced the cap and got in the car, nodding all the time, and just started the car and drove away...

Damn, that's the guy who sent me on a 165 mile drive to check out a 40 Coupe for sale... which turned out to be a 52 Chevy 4door sedan.

A guy asked my buddy and I while we were working on his 69 Mach 1 if it had the Cummins in it.... Yea... That's what it's got- a 351W Cummins!

Reminisent of my aunt who told me,"if you save up all the money you spend on those old cars you could afford a nice new one that you wont have to work on all the time." Thanks, Aunt Dorthy, I never would have thought of that.

better than round these parts...people call ANYTHING 20's or 30's dune buggies or the R word...

  9. I once went to an auction to bid on a "37 Chevy parts car" ... that turned out to be a '41 4-door sedan with every part worth a damn long since gone.

It wasn't a total loss, I bought my first Suburban while I was there.

You shouda said, yeah this is a very rare 34 coupe roadster pickup, one of only 3 built that year.

This reminds me of a story. We had the dragster on the trailer (open trailer in those days) late 60's probably and headed to a race somewhere in West Texas. We stop in some small town for gas and this guy and his wife are really taking all this in. Finally the guy asked me, is that some kinda airplane, where are the wings, propeller and is this where you sit here in the back. I told him no, it's not an airplane it's a dragster. I honestly don't think the guy really ever understood when I tried to explain it to him.

  17. My '40 Mercury throws a lot of "car guys". They think it's a kustomized 40 Ford. or it's a 46 or 47. Some time it's a Buick or Pontiac. That part of why I went with it. There's not too many around. The older guys usually know.

The first time I ever saw one in person was around 1977. I had a 40 Ford coupe at the time. It was in a shopping center parking lot. Until I found the name on the hood sides I wasn't sure what the hell it was. I was about 21 at the time so I had a lot to learn yet.

Well...The guy was trying to be friendly, obviously...Nothing wrong with that. For the general public, they´re all just "old cars" anyway...
Hey, don´t ask me to tell a Lexus apart from a Corolla, Camry, Infinity, Acura, Hyundai or whatever, cause I have no friggin´clue...any more than why on earth anybody would drop "Caddy" -kind of change on something that You can´t tell apart from a Corolla short of looking at the title...LOL.

  20. That is kinda funny, but I applaud him for at least trying most Lexus drivers would run scared from it.
Hmmm, Lexus........ it wasn't Carps was it?

    Doc.

Yep, I know the feeling. Except my version is me telling an old timer about my '31 Model A coupe. Some how the guy wanted to argue that there is no difference between a '30 and a '31. I told him that, while the differences are minute indeed, there are some differences for sure. Namely the firewall on my '31 has a big cove where the fuel spicket used to be. He pretty much told me that I was too young to know, and he started to elude or imply that girls don't know all that much about these things anyway. Kind of made me mad. You'd think I would know something about what I own.

Maybe a little O/T, but last fall at a local show that saw the debut of a flawlessly restored 1921 T Center-Door Sedan owned by a friend of mine, another Model A owner raved long and loudly that the T was a "kit car" because no T could look that good. Several of us tried to set him straight but he would not hear any of it. He made himself no friends that day. As a long-time Model A owner himself, he should have known better.

Man some of you people are dicks and give the rest of us a bad name.

Is is really so bad when non gearheads try to compliment our vehicles?

They're all like "hey man, nice dune buggy" and you're like "hey man, don't you know this car covers for an inferiority complex and your lack of recognition makes me feel small inside"
