Both Ford and GM were installing them into the back of coupes long after 1934.

But then I drive a Lexus, so what the fuck would I know!

 

Yeah, I've met more than one hot rodder who didn't have a clue what it was he was driving, and I reckon I could find more than one or three errors in any edition of anybody's favourite rode or 'lifestyle' magazine.

For those of you who can't tell the difference, the blue one is the Hot Rod!

 

Like everything from GM, regardless of nomenclature they are pretty much all the same car under the skin.

 

Considering that 90% of the Ford bodied Hot Rods in America are powered by Chevrolet engines, it's difficult even for those who should know better to not become confused.

 

Line my lexus up at the light's against your hot rod, I give myself a good chance of winning the race. In a straight line and especially if there's a corner involved.

Sit in the passenger seat and debate 'Hot Rod' I'd back myself equally as a winner, just remember ya can't always judge a book by it's cover and some of the responses here are much more lame that what the Lexus driver said to get this thread started.

 

Have you no Imagination? That could explain why the '34 coupe looks to have a model A cowl.

If I had a dollar for every time some self proclaimed expert has tried to pull the wool over a prospective car buyers eyes with that line, I could afford a Model J Deusenberg!

That one reminds me of the time when an expert Hot Rodder thinking I was just a dumbass know nothing tourist, tried to take me on a guided tour of the NHRA Museum.

As we neared the door he pointed out this 6' tall guy talkin to a few others and told me that he was Tommy Ivo. As we walked in the front door, there was a little guy with a big grin signing posters, he looked up and said 'gudday' as we entered the building. I responded by saying 'Hi Tommy'. My expert guide asked if I knew the fellow and I said "Yeah, that's Tommy Ivo". The first car we looked at was the Toyota Prius Bonnneville record holder and this moron then gave me the lamest, totally wrong description of what it was, which I refuted and told him the real story. He doubted how I could be so sure, even after telling him I actually wrote the instruction book for that car among others, he still reckoned his version of what it is, was right. Same thing happened with a few more of the other hot rods and race cars on display but he eventually figured he was looking more and more like a complete dumbass and gave up.

The moral here is that just because it's a Lexus, the driver probably aint so stupid as you think. And just because a man drives a neat Hot Rod doesn't make him an expert, Nor is the Lexus as a machine, any worse than the POS you are driving.

 

Nope, I know a POS when I'm lookin at one. ;-)

And what's the betting that a whole bunch of the folks reading my comments are really pissed at me for responding to the first post on this thread, which I read as an insult to my intelligence as a Lexus owner?

 

OK, I get confused easy. Some guy jumps out of a '34 coupe and complimented your Lexus. From the pics, I think you have a very nice Lexus RPU. The flat black paint and wide whites are a nice touch. Did you order it like that? Yes, I do get confused a lot, but I know the difference between coupe and roadster and Lexus and American made. Reminds me of a friend in the early '80s that put a hot 350 SBC in a Pontiac Sunbird. He had a neighbor whose parents had money. The neighbor grew up thinking the only way to have anything was to buy it. Probably never actually held a ratchet, open end wrench, etc. When my friend (about 18 at the time) told the other kid about his car plans, the kid asked (with attitude) "Where are you going to find a high performance engine these days"? My friend responded with "build it, stupid". The car got completed and it was "scary fast".

 

Doesn't bother me one little bit, coz I know my Toyotas can kick your Hot Rod's ass even harder than my Lexus will.

 

Me too and where I live 'American Made' means just another lousy Import, taking jobs from my countrymen!

I think it was to suggest that anybody who drives a Lexus is stupid and knows nothing about cars.

Unfortunately it appears that the person who wrote that, knows little of people who drive Lexus.

 

Was in the hardware store one day last year - my 13 year old son was sitting in the truck waiting. I came out and he told me about the exchange he had with a couple locals. One guy told the other that my truck was a nice looking '48 (it's a '55 Chevy 2nd series, nothing like a '48, or even an early '55). My son pipes up and says "It's a '55", to which the idiot says "No it isn't, it's a '48". Moron. The kid in the passenger seat probably knows more about that particular vehicle than you do. I helped on that truck from the age of 7 and grew up knowing a lot about it and my boy is doing the same.

 

I would like to find someone like that at the DMV in charge of inspections.

 

from where im sittin it apprears that some lexus drivers are just a little bit sensitive about being a lexus driver , but gee wiz thanks for bringing some of us low lifes into the orbit of the lifestyles of the rich and famous..

 

You mean everyone with a fancy car is rich? Hmmm. I always thought I was a brokeass hot rodder and pure ambition is what made my car fancy. Sure is funny how people view things when they put everything in terms of money and class without realizing those walls are self imposed.

I can't count, on one hand, the number of times old guys have asked me if my 62 Comet was a Fairlane.

Dozens of times I've had the Comets called Falcons, which is understandable since they share a ton of parts.

I've had 2 people ask me if the 60 Comet was a Starliner.

I smile and tell them it's the Starliner's little brother from 1960.

However I find if I go there with the right attitude and approach, they are usually very helpfull.

Like anywere, the attitude you give will be the attitude you get back.

 

And that is different to hot rodders how? I think this thread makes it clear who's more sensitive.

I'm neither 'rich' nor famous, just a bloke who works hard to have all the things in life he desires. I don't do it to be categorised and insulted, if you can't handle that then it's your loss, not mine.

The point of my posting in this thread is that this is the WWW and anybody is likely to be reading what is said here, including all those rich Lexus driving people you've insulted. You guys do yourselves a major disservice the way you portray or denegrate people who do not see life your way or understand in the same detail, your old cars and the way you modify them. That bad attitude then reflects directly on all hot rodders because people think we're all tarred with the same brush, just a bunch of arrogant, angry neanderthalls who deserve little or no respect.

 

Yup, seems to me they are even worse snobs than the people they assume to be that way.

Don't need money to have class, just the right attitude and approach to life and all it's issues.

 

That's what I call a good approach, doesn't cost anything or leave anybody insulted or bruised, just enlightened.

I used to get asked all the time if my Nefoundland dog is a Black St Bernard, had lots of laughs and met some nice people as a result.

Yup, it's why I don't get involved in too many conversations here so much anymore, despite it being one of the best hot rodding related sites on the WWW.

But when I feel insulted, I reserve the right not to turn the other cheek, as is the American way.
