I have finally collected all parts to start my project..27 T coupe body, front split a bones with shocks and spring, rear split a bones..I will be using 2x3 inch tubing for frame and it will be z'd front and rear...my question is the front I beam that I have is a stock, not a dropped axle..I love the look of the dropped I beam but all of the parts that I have bought have been bought for a very fair price..so my delimma is should I stay with the stock axle or think about buying a dropped axle..I like low (low to the ground )but keeping the cost down is very important...tell me what you think. tia

What's the axle from? Get the stock axle dropped.

  3. mount your axle suicide and use hairpins. That way you can use your axel and have your car nice and low.

Buying hairpins is gonna cost as much as buying a dropped axle (or having his dropped).

If you're Z-ing the front, it's probably gonna be low from just doing that. If not, spend the $$$ on the axle.

Also, as discussed many, many, many times before.....using split bones on the rear is not a good idea. Especaily Model A bones. Those things are like wet noodles. Please revisit your choice of mounting the rear.

Money should not necessarily be the limiting factor.
Hot rod building is an individual thing so get it how you want and the cost of an alxe or hairpins is hardly a barrier how ever you prefer it.

As long as you're building the frame yourself, what's to keep you from raising the front spring perch (suicide or humped crossmember) to achieve all the lowering you want. If it upsets your caster ( due to the back end of the wishbones being too low) piecut and reweld the wishbones. If you look back at the rods from the '40s & '50s they didn't all have dropped axles.
