I was hoping that a pair of air cleaners would have matched and that I would have found Keith’s missing air cleaner. But none of them match up 09DEEB32-A938-4951-A3D1-F4D7824878FF.jpeg on a positive note I have 2 matching air cleaners

PATINA, real patina. Now I know what that word really means! ;)

The Coke sign has to stay. Never, until now, have I understood the idea of "Patina" but this car is the essence of the word. For all those guys who pay somebody to faux paint rust on their rides in an attempt to make them look old, just give up. This car is the real deal. :D

    Nice cars !

I also am one who doesn’t understand fake patina, and would only go for glossy paint.
Perhaps consider using clr on the roof and clear over it or gibbs brand lubricant it, as that is just neat ! ( even if the rest was glossy paint ).
If you don’t want to keep the patina of the roof, maybe consider swapping it for another coupe body.

  7. You’ve gotta love a project with potential and you have a pair of them. Do you think they drove the merc year round? As far as old signs go, I like the Dekalb dealer sign too. Thanks for taking us on your adventure. You have the best of both worlds, pretty up the merc, and leave the patina on the A, that is a good shade of blue.

The Dekalb sign I rescued from a dumpster at the local Coop . The new manager at the time decided to clean house .

  9. Congrats! Those are great cars. I'd be tempted to just get the A running and give it "a good leaving alone".

  10. Congrats on the score! Looks like a couple of great projects...

Think stainless custard, sauce & pet food cups/bowls. Come in all sizes. You'll find something that'll look good. 8^)

I pulled the radiator and took it to be looked at and repaired if needed. That’s when I learned that the generator has a chrome cover on it . Well it was shiny at one time . The water tubes from the heads to the radiator were chrome also . 76081852-D0DF-45EC-B12F-08D3A87EF52C.jpeg

You should work on both of them I would start by pulling the hopped up merc motor out and putting it in the A:D:D:D

C3D6A506-C594-4A1F-9137-DEDD30256640.jpeg Bought a front seat for the 47 today . The vinyl has some holes and tears in it but is 100% better than the one that came out of the car . The years of rodent, raccoon poop and moisture rusted the springs beyond use . The frame was ruined also

  23. that roof is quite possibly the coolest thing i've ever seen...

In the Merc There are 2 D0692726-4411-47CA-B763-BEFBB8CED106.jpeg wooden blocks 1 1/2” square that were between the floor and the front seat mounting brackets. Are these stock or something the previous owner added ?

I rolled the Mercury out of the barn 3 weeks ago and with the help from my son in law we gave it a Comet / green scuff pad scrub bath . IMG_6540.jpeg IMG_6541.jpeg

I then gave it a rub down with Sweet Patina sauce . The next morning I was surprised by the results. IMG_6551.jpeg

Dad and I loaded the car on a trailer Friday night and early Saturday morning I went to the Lead ain’t Dead show at Dewey , OK . IMG_6814.jpeg was a great day spent with Friends. Got lots of positive comments about the car . Hopefully those will motivate me this winter working on the car . Also met a Guy from AR that has a rear seat out of a 47 4 door sedan that I can buy and cut down to replace the rotten rear seat I removed from the car .

A very good Friend of mine Jimmy Allen was at an estate sale last week and found a set of chrome gauge bezels and a chrome radio speaker grill that fits the Mercury. Not quite the same shape but excellent replacements for the Bakelite dash pieces . He also bought several body trim pieces for the Mercury . I have yet to pick those pieces up from him .
