Was really tickled to see your car at Lead Ain't Dead. Too bad we didn't run into each other!

Thanks for going through the hassle to bring your Merc to Lead Ain't Dead. You have to see it in person, the pictures don't do the car justice. It is a true kool survivor.

Thank You Mick . Had a blast at Lead ain’t Dead . Lots of Kool Kustoms and Great people. Got lots of positive comments on the Mercury.
Sweet Patina Sauce is a product that helps preserve the old paint . It kind of restores the color . I was hesitant on buying some because of the price but I did . The quart can has covered 2 cars and there’s enough for a third car left in the can . I didn’t want a shinny clear coat finish . It’s old paint and I feel it should tell its story .

IMG_6726.jpeg Here’s the roof of my 57 . It sat in a pasture for a few years. This was during the wipe on step . The shine has dulled down some .

Can’t wait to see this Merc on the road Kurte! So glad you were able to take it to Lead Ain’t Dead which I****ume helped with the motivation factor to get it going. Wish I could have made it up there to see it (and you of course). I ended up just walking around at our local show with about 10 of 300 cars that interested me. But, I went more to see all the friends anyway. :D

You ever see that old movie called April Love? Pat Boone gets his uncle's late '40s Mercury convertible running that was just sitting in the barn. The next scene shows him ripping around the old horse track, open exhaust pipes roaring, sliding sideways through the curves, throwing a wave of dirt clods.

Yes, mix a $2 gallon jug of vegetable oil with a little coconut oil sweetener from the local supermarket, then try to peddle it for $200 a gallon.

I never put oil or wax on sheet metal that I may want to paint some day…
    Great pair of cars though!!
The roof insert is only going to be a feature if the car is lowered enough to see the top, standing next to it. Is that the plan?

Ahh, thank you for the info. I've seen folks do the boiled linseed oil, sort of the same thing it seems like..

In the pile of trim pieces there was the 2 fender trim pieces . I removed the hood ornament and sat one of them on the hood . Looks a lot cleaner to me . IMG_6852.jpeg

IMG_9895.jpeg IMG_9894.jpeg I started cleaning on the dash . The years of setting in an open barn on a dirt floor didn’t help things . Good thing the car was in the very back of the shed . It dust and moisture that built up on the top of the dash surface rusted the top 1/3 . The bottom 2/3’s is cleaning up nicely. I was surprised to find the original woodgraining still somewhat in tact
