If that was my Grandpas car id cut it in half and build myself a 34 roadster. And save the 32 frame for another project

Not surprised if it was, the price was right, and I think this is the best fate for the car anyway. It'll spawn a Deuce and a reworked 33/34 open car now. Maybe even the bustle finds it's way onto something more appropriate someday.

The Portuguese Windlass inside the doors speaks of someone with prior knowledge of very early biplanes; or, cowboy fence builders where that same technical genius is right at home. The technology came down from early sailors who used it with rope to good effect for tightening whatever needed tightening. I mention this just in case someone ever wants to copy it, as it is a handy trick to know, and one of those low tech solutions that can save both time and money when little more is available that bailing wire, or a piece of rope. Using the latter, of course, you need to leave the lever in the middle in place and propped against something to keep it from unwinding. Yeah, go back and look at it. You'll see what I mean.

Yep, the body will be headed off to a new home, now I need to find a deuce body of some flavor ! I really wish I could buy back either one of the sedan bodies I have sold........for the price I sold them for !

Oh well, I'm not in a hurry, just stuff it in the barn until something pops up and keep working on my highboy roadster in the meantime .

Thanks again for all the help and info ! This is such a great community :)

  8. Well I hope whoever bought chimes in and let's us know what his plan is. There were some cool ideas in the thread, I would like to see what happens.

I think this thread is one of those where people's opinions follow the popular theme so they can be considered one of the cool kids. a large majority of the population has no opinions of their own, they just go with the crowd. I see it all the time here.

I like that body and what they did to it. I say it belongs on something more radical than a standard Hot Rod frame. it needs to be channeled, and have a Hemi with 8 carbs on a blower and DEFINITLY some sort of crazy non stock grille. I think the haters have no imagination. you are the guys who need whitewalls photoshopped on your car before you know what it will look like because your brain can only see what is in front of you.

I’ve never even thought about myself as being a hater, but for sure after a touch over 60 years of following this stuff I definitely have opinions on what I like in a hot rod.
Mildly aggressive, stock bodied late ‘20’s - early ‘30’s cars, fendered or not, chopped if done mildly, no outlandish paint and especially a car that follows a theme.
The car in question has a little bit of everything and that is the problem, the builder (may he RIP) sends a mixed message with a ‘32 frame and the basic, well accepted hot rod suspension but then he diverted to a bizarro body and a windshield that kinda fits the car but looks too tall proportionally.
Does the body make the car a custom? Do the headers give the impression of a lakes racer? Do the whitewall tires and bat wing air cleaner scream 1950’s? And I especially don’t understand blending a Model 40 body with what appears to be an attempt at a turtle deck. JMO, flame away if you must, but yes, I do have an opinion and I stand by it. Cool kid? Uh, no, just a regular guy.

I will suggest the door are to short , horizontally, to be anything but from a phaeton..

Not a Vicky, not a Roadster, or a Cabriolet, ( look at picture comparables )

The wire "trick" diagonally, an "old Trick" seen it many times, usually on '33-'34-'35-'36 Roadsters with "long doors"

  16. Whether you think it’s ugly or not, it is different. It is not outlandishly different - it really all just depends on the end result. There will always be opinions about a build. Regardless, go with the flow and see how things turn out. As long as you like it, that’s what matters ......

  17. A rear body something like this could help you make a nice 33/34 Ford tub
