I bought all parts and target was to****emble the front axle during the Easter. But I have serious problems, the shackles won’t reach. I don’t know what is the reason. All parts should match. 48” axle, 31 1/2 spring, 2” shackles. What’s wrong?

[EDIT] The perch boss center-to-center is 38”. This must be a spring in front type of axle. Damn.

The show must go on, Let’s continue with a brand new axle! Cool old School Roadster was visiting the shop at the same time. IMG_1755.jpeg IMG_1754.jpeg IMG_1756.jpeg IMG_1757.jpeg

We have a rolling Hot Rod! First time rolling after decades. This was my target for this building season.
In Finland we must have disc brakes and fourlinks for a SBC. They don’t look too bad. Also I’m very happy with the quality of parts.

I started to work with my miserable doors again. Pretty good progress with passenger side door, the skin is ready and started the prep work. Will give it small sanding and black paint for now. The upper side is still full of rust holes.
Also fabricated some plywood under the seat so that bench is not laying straight on the floor. I will mount all the seat parts together so that it is one removable seat as a whole.

Thank you very much @Stock Racer!

Today we had a small local estate sale / swap meet where an old man was selling his ”junk” very cheap. I bought all kind of random stuff and paid very little. The battery box and emergency brake, and maybe the upholstery will find the place in Model A.

We are outside! Feels great to see what I have done during the winter. Looking just right! I’m very happy how the Hot rod came out.

It’s a 3 banger. I asked, and it is from a 1964 DKW from East Germany.

I received cool photos of my car when it was found in the Finnish forest after decades of resting.

It took my years to understand the unofficial Snap-on tools motto of "buy once cry once". Even Harbor freight I think has gotten the memo because it seems they are starting to steer away from that nation.

  21. It's all technically traditional.
Volkswagen bugs were out in the 50's as were Fiat 600s.
Occasionally when you flip through magazines from the era you will see odd parts from European cars on American hot rods, it's all about using what works.

There is a junk yard here on Cape Cod ,the owner recently passed to the workshop in the sky , but the place was a studabaker kaiser/ gas station and there is a new 49-50 Kaiser Frazier sitting in a building that was the showroom it's was new never sold. I looked at it once and I think the best part was the hood badge. Now his son is clearing everything out so it will be interesting to see how it comes out of the building I'll see if I can get pictures.

Hi again. Summer is turning into a fabrication season again. I haven’t started with Coupe yet though. I made some horse trade earlier and got me the 30-31 Model A Murray back doors. They are almost the same lenght than Roadster doors. So I let that idea grow and here we are now: During the summer I was able to score all these parts which I will call a ”Roadster” now on.

Now there is at least one rear quarter which is 100% more than what I had for the Coupe. I built them basically from scratch by hand.

And also it will be way nicer to go to swap meets when you have something to search for.

In Finland we have inspection on every other year for old cars like hotrods. The first registration inspection for modified cars like this is more detailed and you need to have 50% of the original car left for identity. In other words, in Finland it is impossible to build a car from scratch.
