Projects I bought the worst hot rod project in the country. Model A ’28 homemade Coupe

The new garage season is about to start! It was a sunny autumn Saturday. Rolled the Hot rod out from the garage for motivation and turned it other way round again. The roof bones came out perfect!

 

Some updates from this winter period. One step forward and two back. I removed the whole rear leaf spring suspension and will replace it with coil overs. If you read this thread, you can see that I've been struggling with the rear suspension, it is always too low but too stiff. So, let's just forget the original Model A spring.

Also made lot of work by mounting the brake pedal system. Then removed it all and installed a new 90 degrees system instead. It just didn't look good when it poked out through the firewall. Had to tear the gas tank in pieces and use it as a cowl top only. Now I’m working with the dash and firewall. The battery is finally installed, it was a tight fit but a small one fit half under the trunk floor. Luckily I got all wrong parts sold very easily and I was able to buy me a carburetor, air cleaner, starter, and dash panel.

Of course, when I had to remove the gas tank including the dash, I had to remove the steering column again. And then mount it back and fabricate new mounts and everything. It is very tight fit between brake system, brake system mounts, steering column, brake pedal arm, dash, firewall etc. Very slow progress and lot of thinking.

 

Your persistance is crazy, my hat´s off to you. You brought her back to life. I just had to giggle a bit after imagining you driving your freshly finished Hot Rod to a carshow one day and the first person you meet would be an old geezer saying what a shame it was to cut up such a nice car, hahahaha

 

I had to blow the gas tank in parts. Now everything just bolts on back together. Here is my new old dash which was cut off from the tank and now it is bolt-on. The dash panel is similar what I put in my previous Hot rod 15 years ago. Glad I found the similar one!

 

Damn, that explains the colloquialism of making Chicken salad out of Chicken Sh!t. HRP

 

I have never seen such a pile of rust, literally, turned into a car body. I would never even attempt what you have pulled off. Congratulations!!

I built front shock mounts and when they were finished I realized my poor old frame is flexing like hell. I made some reinforcement and now it’s alot sturdier. Glad I found this issue now.

Great work! Doing something similar with a sport coupe. Got the back half of a tudor from @JimmyTheHooker using it for a top to replace the wood/soft top.

 

What a fantastic resurrection, what an accomplishment. I just stumbled on this because of the title and I'm really glad I did. Talk about inspiration!

 

An ABSOLUTELY STUNNING TRANSFORMATION!!!! some of you guys metal crafting skills are amazing....

 

We have functional steering!! Great milestone. Vintage Motors Finland machined new steering links, thank you. It was a tight fit between Vega box and SBC engine mount.

Thank you. I mean it would have been great to have this in driveable condition but small things always take more time. This is my winter project so luckily I have work left for the next winter still.

 

You well answered the question asked in the recent thread, "What Do You Guys Do In The Winter?"

Two swap meets during the weekend. I managed to buy a cheap shifter for the Coupe. Also scored these cool old chromed hairpins. I guess I have officially started to collect parts for my next Roadster project.
