Hagerty for me 3 cars for many years. They understand and are friendly.

  3. HAGERTY.

Truck in my avatar is insured for agreed value of $15k at $280 per year.

    Great service - zero hassles.

  4. Hagerty, Hagerty, Hagerty!
....and your cars are NOT really rusty.

My 29 roadster is in about the same condition as yours and I got agreed value 25k through Haggertys. It was easy.

I don't think most of you get it...

I went through State Farm to try to get insurance on my '64 C10 and they said that because there was "rust" on the bumper (a 1 inch scratch that oxidized) they wouldn't insure it. Then they proceeded to tell me how they wanted it fixed.

These people at these places are a waste of time, they know nothing about cars and say they won't cover it because of a scratch on a painted bumper.... give me a break. Needless to say I have my home insurance and two vehicles with state farm and they still stiffed me. I am shopping around for someone who actually cares.

I have my C10 insured through CHROME insurance, nice dude that has my account, good policy, low payment (60 bucks for 6 months of full coverage), and local. Everytime I put another classic on it it drops my payment for both 4-10 bucks for each vehicle too.

  10. you're pretty far from me but i'm in illinois also out by schaumburg. all of the guys i know around here use state farm and have had no problems and its super affordable. no mileage restrictions or anything. i've used hagerty in the past and had good luck with them also.

  11. I have CHROME for my two vehicles. Good people to work with plus I was able to put my wife and 15 yr. old son on as drivers.

What about the mileage and usage restrictions from grundy or hagerty? I know they are cheaper and work with us old car freaks well, but if I want to daily drive an old car are they going to freak out at claim time? I had Grundy for a '36 truck I had but it wasn't daily driven.

Most from what I get they want your home and all cars your first born and what other things you have on their paper work. I'll call a few today. Maybe l'll be on the Road by the weekend.

Not a lot of restrictions here, we are always tinkering with stuff and I asked if we needed to road test a repair that we have made and are in an accident what would happen. He said as long as you can prove that you have purchased something recently or are trying to fix something on your ride you are fine. Also if you are driving it somewhere to get worked on (for instance new tires/alignment/etc.) there isn't a problem then either. Also if you are going to any shows (includes just random meets in parking lots because it doesn't exclude them). Pretty much what I was told is that if you can prove in any way shape or form that you were doing something other than driving it like an idiot there won't be a problem.

I had a company decline to insure my car because I diden't place a high enough value on it.

Their min. was $10,000 agreed value.

I got dropped by Hagarty because I rear ended some woman in my daily driver and caused her $100. In damage. I was stuck in traffic and eased off the brake and tapped her. What a crock!

Then why did it go through insurance... I am fairly certain they don't even make a police report unless there is more than $300 worth of damage to a vehicle. Thusly, it is settled out of court and just between you and the driver because I am sure the deductible is higher than that. Also, what the hell was she driving that caused $100 worth of damage by "tapping" it.. Sounds like some touch up paint to me....

Yeah that's what I want, some dude that's stuck in traffic giving me a "tap". Someone has to fix that tap.
If you check with Gundy,Chrome or other specialty company's, you'll find a company that will take care of you. Check all there restrictions, mileage, useage, ect.
    Good luck

So you got insurance on your "OLD" driver, the one with the rust. When it comes time for a claim, do any of these companys pay out??

Try Condon & Skelly, or as mentioned Hagerty or Grundy. They'll insure anything that moves.

State Farm wouldn't touch my truck. Any collector car won't insure me since I'm under 25. I went through grange, haven't had trouble in 2 years, and haven't had a claim.

Plus I thought hagerty or Grundy had mileage limits? I would far surpass those.

State farm sux ,had a young boy turn in front of me on my motor cycle August 31 last year and he was insured by Auto owners inc who is owned by state farm they wouldn't even pay the ambulance bill had collection agency bugging me,going for my second surgery Monday and they haven't payed for the first one yet either ended up getting a lawyer now state farm drops my inc. don't even give a reason, mind you i have five cars inc. with them two that aren't on the road ,home owners will not cover a non running car in your garage if there is a fire, in order to get the home owners with them i had to change the main electrical box because it was Union Pacific and they said they were unsafe . I had one small claim in three years and i mean small, they suck !

State Farm probably doesn't suck, your agent sucks. He's the one who decides if the paperwork moves forward. If he's leery of you or your cars, he won't write it up. That's why were seeing good stories and bad ones. Find a good company, then find a good agent.

Honestly, I'll never understand trying to insure a specialty vehicle with a main stream insurance company. Chances are, your agent wouldn't know a spark plug from an air filter. Do a search here on how many accidents were under appraised by main stream insurance companies. Leading to denials, long waits to get repaired and sometimes having to resort to legal action.

A guy writing a policy on a home, boat, motorcycle, auto and specialty car, probably doesn't really care about either. He's trying to get his commission and that's it. If you're going to go main stream, check out the agent. Chances are, if he thinks a T Bucket is a dune buggy, he's probably not the guy to go with.

Thing is, HAGERTY understands the whole hobby. I am utilizing their "Build" coverage . . . my heap is covered before it is even a roller, just keep adjusting the covered value up as more $ gets dumped into the heap.

If your house burns down, your heap-under-construction in the garage is not covered by homeowners. Cars (or parts of cars) are not treated the same as your other "stuff".

Grundy is probably the same, but I can vouch for Hagerty . . . they get it!

when i bought my shoebox, i called hagerty and they wanted 153/yr--wound up adding it to my aarp auto coverage for a c-note (agreed value, less than 2,000 miles per year). but you gotta be 50 years old!
