That's a good lookin sports coupe. I think I'd finish up the rear spring and remove the landau bars if it was mine. Hell, I might even go nuts and paint the wheels yellow to match the paint too but that's just a personal choice for me....I hate red wheels on anything. I'd be proud to drive that little coupe.
Looks great, nice enough stance, but you could drop it a bit more in the rear with no harm to clearances. My '29 cabriolet is now very close to the same stance as yours, but I am going to try to get just a bit more drop on mine once the body is off for paint. Tubular shocks work fine and were becoming common by the sixties. Your landau irons should be swapped left to right to get them on the right sides. In northern CA, 16" Red wires were the norm in the early sixties for Model A's. Looks good to me. I have had sbc Model A's, but am enjoying my cabriolet with its four banger as much as anything.
I have to admit I like driving my A with the banger in it. It's surprisingly fun. I can see why you've got the fever. There's a lot to like. I probably would have built mine up if a seller and I could have agreed on a price for some speed parts he had.
Hey...welcome to the banger club. way to much fun. may not be as fast as a SBC but boy do the bangers catch peoples eye. lotta fun
Thanks for your comments. Shocks are next on the list. Going to the local coffee run Suday morning, been a few times but will be first time lowered. Oohh what was that? You could be right, another case off the virus.I feel a roadster minus fenders coming on.
Just went for a quick run now and the weather is ****. Windy as **** and showering. Will have to be pouring for me not to go this week.
Watch out that's how it happens. Next thing you know your buying estates from widowsand filling sheds with cast iron!!
Been a while since I did anything other than drive this thing. Decieded yesterday to put the front shocks on and reverse the spring and clean it up while I was at it. I made the brackets and bought the shocks ages ago. Everything clears and nothing hits so a good result. Had too leave a ****** out off one side of the shackles as it hit the shock but thats a minor. I bought a pair of hot rod type shackles but didn't realise A's are 11/16 pin and spring eye and hot rod stuff is all 3/4 so the stockers with the ****** out will do for now. Next week the rear goes down , i can get about 1 1/4 " and put the shocks on.
Funny you should ask that. I used the stock ones which are a bit short so I tried to buy5/8 unf half nyloc nuts and couldn't get any so i got normal ones and cut about 1/4'" of them so the nylock got on to the thread. I had a2"x 5/8 unf bolt and nut laying around so I locked the nylock nut on it 1/8" inch and cut it off on the saw. Here is a pic of what's left after the cut so you can get what i'm saying.
So that is a new available lower shock mount and you just made a thinner nylock to hold it on? That sounds doable! Thanks, Dave
Yes thats right. I got the shock mounts from Early Ford store. They are a more original looking one. http://lbcunited.com/earlyford2/product_info.php/cPath/160_164/products_id/3207
It's already about 3" lower than stock. I rearched the spring a bit like the shape of a T spring last time. Going to rearch a bit more and reverse eyes.
Got the rear shocks on a couple of weeks ago, just havn't got around to posting it. The top mount bolts down through the bumper iron holes and 2 bolts through the side of the crossmember. The spacer can be removed and the irons can go back on if I decide I need bumpers. Also bent some repro pickup tailight brackets and installed a second light and wired indicators. Probably shift the number plate to cover the spare wheel bracket holes. Didn't get to the spring, had to go to a couple of local runs. Next week.
Finally got to the rear spring. Reversed it and a bit more changing the arch and got the eyes rolled a little to shorten it slightly as the shackle angle was getting too steep. Even fixed the handbrake.
V-8 isn't that bad, a little tobacco, a touch of Worcestershire, and a healthy does of Vodka is the perfect remedy on Saturday morning. I actually knew a chick with the "banger" virus. I quit visiting her. Reminds me of a jingle: Hey there swingin' bachelors Are you tired of the steady drip Drip, drip of Gonorrhea? Then Peter Rooter's for you Peter Rooter, that's the name You just flush your troubles Down the drain Rotten Peter, rotten Peter, rotten Peter [Cheech n Chong] OK foolishness aside, I got a lot of repect for the banger crowd. it takes a lot of patience and perseverance for a man to wring the ponies out of a banger and you got to respect that. looks like a good choice for a totally trad build.
BANGER VIRUS- Had it for 60+ years. Tried lots of cures-Nothing works- Stopped looking for a cure and decieded to just enjoy it! SEE YOU AT THE FAST AUBURN HILL CLIMB THIS COMING SATURDAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
