Got a pair of backing plates of unknown origin that I hope you guys can identify for me. They are currently on my 1953 f250 that has been converted to 5" on 5 1/2". Was told by previous owner they are zephyr plates but I'm not sure. Diameter of plates are 13". Brute strength and ignorance can overcome any mechanical problem.
41-48 ford, they look like they have the resting pads for the shoes. cool as hell with the holes drilled.
They look like rear backing plates with the little opening down the bottom, thats where the handbrake cable would normally go through. If it hasn't already been drilled away, it might have a stamping i think they usually have LF LR RF RR from memory to indicate which corner they are originally for. That stamping is on the outside too.
Thanks for the quick responses guys. Truly appreciate it. Will check on those stamped numbers tomorrow. Brute strength and ignorance can overcome any mechanical problem.
How about a picture of the 6 o'clock area of the backing plates? That will narrow it to pre or post war which is VERY IMPORTANT when ordering parts. The ones shown in post #4 are post war. Yours may look like this at 6 o'clock or have adjusters in that location (pre war). They are '39 to '48 Ford backing plates, not Lincoln plates. Charlie Stephens
As Big Deuce said, they are post-war. Those little bumps where the shoes ride are only on the post-war type. We don't need to see the bottom anchors.
The F250 brakes are self energizing Bendix which are one heck of a lot better than the Lockheed shown in the pictures
