Art & Inspiration I didn't know Dodges had nice lines

These two-door Wayfarer sedans have nice lines. They're not stodgy-looking.

 

I think @58prostreet, Bob McCleskey has one of these. They make cool hot rods, IMO.

 

That wayfarer body style is one of my favorites. We have a yard here with several and I always would stop and look.

 

Plymouth had a similar fastback model
Can’t recall the name, but I think the model designation was P19
Cambridge, maybe?

 

I prefer the business coupes

 

The coupes can look good and they can look odd.

 

I don't see them as a fastback.

The slanted B-pillar(?) is nice.

 

I dated Linda Dodge for a while. She had nice lines, as well.

 

You are thinking of the Plymouth Concord. These were Plymouth and Dodge's cheaper, short wheelbase line. Plymouths were available as the Concord 2 door sedan, a pimple top 3 window coupe and a 2 door all steel station wagon. Dodge also had a Wayfarer roadster (convertible top, no side windows).
I agree they are less stodgy looking than the regular line, but Plymouth and Dodge didn't get any real good looking cars before 1957, or 1955 at the earliest. Although the 56 Fury was pretty sharp.

The slanted pillar and the subtle rake is nice. It looks like something's wrong with the rear skirt.

 

No, "stodgy" is a poor description. "Frumpy" would be better.

 

I think stodgy is correct as it rhymes with Dodgy. And weren't those slopeback Plymouths called the Cranbrook?

 

whacking half a foot out of the top sure helps the lines of the old Mopars....

 

Late 30s early 40s had great lines and make great sleds.

The post war ones ain’t bad

I too like the early '30s and '40s Mopars. I have had a few '50s Mopars that I like! My 1940 Dodge Deluxe Business Coupe fits the class.

Could be, but when you stuff a hot 440-4spd in them they become bad ass stodgy Dodges

Changed to -49 Plymouth bumpers and Cad lights.

 

Shaving the OEM brake light makes it look bigger...

 

This is why I like 'em.

 

I was a '49 Wayfarer owner in 1966. I never got a complement on the style.
The flat 6 ran through a fluid coupler and a standard shift 3 speed. I never got a compliment on the acceleration.
I must say, however, that the rear seat area was more than adequate!

 

I'm a hardcore Ford guy, but have had a couple Mopars over the years that I got in trade.

A '40 2-door turned phaeton...with no top. Had to build a fiberglass roof for it before I could sell it.


And a '41 "coupe-ster" with "frenched" EVERYTHING!!! Too odd for me and traded it for a Model A body.
