I do not want to drive a Honda civic

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by steevil, Aug 11, 2004.

  1. Dude...I cant belive what im hearing. Secondly, looking at your "collection" of rides and the time/money you put in that 58.

What are you looking for? 32 3-window w/ a supercharged Ardun Flattie?

If you want to get into this hobby, you have to sacrifice. If you cant sacrifice yourself to what you love...drop it and move on...because it wasnt meant to be.

Oh, and the lottery comment, if you win the lottery and buy that fiberglass 32 w/ the Lexus motor...I guarantee you will be walking down "Goldchainer Boulevard" by yourself.

This hobbie is based on the love, hard work, dedication and sacrifices to your ride...and enjoying them w/ others. The greatest of them all is getting together w/ your friends and turning wrenches. Getting it done...and finally firing it up...Damn, its like sex w/ a Christy Brinkley look alike on Hollywood Blvd....Experiences I wouldnt trade for anything. PERIOD.

I owned 6 classic cars before I finally had one that ran, and looked sharp...

    Im wasting my breath...

Good luck on your searches!!! Sell your sh*t and get what you want...what else is there to say???? [IMG]

    Carps rules.

FWIW, I got a $1500 loan to buy a '61 Caddy in '86, it established my credit, now I owe every credit card company in the world money.

  5. Yikes,

I can feel your fustration... I wanted a hot rod so bad I could taste it. And I got one... how?

When everyone was dirnking away thier pay cheque I was saving. When everyone was buying late model cars I was catching the train and saving. When everyone else was partying I was working over time and ...saving.

Its all about priorities and sacrifice. It took me 5 years to get a hot rod...and I got it when I was 23. Hardly my golden years. Infact I was the youngest person I knew with a rod - that they paid for themselves.

I dont want to sound patronising but I think if your serious enough you will find away. Sell some of those other cars and buy a rod.

    Danny

I've decided that the reason I never see any "younger" people with cool rods is that by the time they have saved enough money or spent enough time to buy/build anything cool, they are rapidily approaching thier golden years.

    [ QUOTE ]
I know quite a few very young fellas who own some of the nicest, and better built, even big bux, high zoot hot rods in the land. Likewise, I know a bunch of young fellas who own some of the coolest rattiest old shitters in the land. Both groups got 'em the same way and both groups are equally proud of what they have. See my second paragraph above to learn how they do it.

alright, before you guys lynch me, here's my story:

I made a deal to buy a chopped Merc sled. I talked to the guy and he told me the first guy to show up at my door with $18000 CANADIAN DOLLARS drives it away.

Otherwise he's listing it on Ebay that night and asking $18000 AMERICAN DOLLARS. He further goes on to tell me it's a hell of a deal because I save on the exchange rate.

I go to the bank and get a loan and show up at the guys door.

The car is on an Olds frame. Not worth $18000...maybe $10000 max.It needs a lot of finish work to hit the road but it's well within my abilities.

I already know that I'm paying waaaay too much but you need to pay to play. I'm about to seal the deal and he tells me that I must be mistaken because he wanted $18000 AMERICAN DOLLARS.

    WTF?

He tells me that he needs to get at least $24000 CANADIAN DOLLARS out of it but he'll consider taking my '58 Ford in on a trade on top of $20000 CANADIAN cash.

He then tells me to hurry up and find the extra cash because it's going on Ebay tomorrow and it'll sell quick.

I look it up on Ebay and it already been there for 2 days.

I guess he figured he could soak me for as much as he could because I am a youngster.

I put the '58 up for sale to clear the way for the Merc but I guess that's a moot issue.

So now I'm stuck with a paying the intrest on the bank loan, didn't get the car I wanted.

I guess I didn't need to kvetch like a little girl but I didn't want to be a royal prick and name the guy (yeah, he cruises this board).

So again, sorry for sounding like a whiney bit¢h.

Honestly, my attitude isn't as bad as I come off. I've just had one guy after another try to sucker me.

    Hell of an entrance huh?

    okay, I'm done

yeah, I have an appointment at the bank tomorrow to pay back the loan. I guess I didn't lose a whole lot of money though.

I find out tomorrow what my early payment penalty is.

  10. Yeah...pay the $$ back and be done. I might be inclined to poke out my good eye to get that 58 Ford from you. Thats a nice car. Wish I had one like that. If I get time to work on mine, I will.

Apparently you missed the posts about low buck rods a few weeks back. Alot of guys building for under 5K.
Hell, I buy up to 20- 50 cars a year for under 300 each, all classics..1920-1960's
    You arent looking hard enough.
And stop spending your loan money on all the girls. The good ones like ya even if youre broke.

People grow out of this [IMG] I'm confident!

We were all young and stupid at one time, and luckily some of us got it out of the way before 20, but still...

Apparently he's infatuated with chopped 49-51 stuff, which is understandable, being it's the mainstream dream.

If I had the choice of a solid ride like his 58, and some backwoods engineered chop owned by a sheister, it'd be an easy choice.

Dude, lose the sunroof in the 58, and enjoy the thing. Your poop stinks of spoiled suburbia.. You got a yellow late model jeep sitting next to your car that's sitting in a nice asphaulted driveway..

I'm not lecturing you, but just want you to know how off base you are, but also that I know 50 kids JUST LIKE YOU.

My formula for success is to move out (if that's your folks house), educate yourself, get full time gainful employment, and fund your hobby...

All you need is a good dose of responsibility to see that you ain't got it that rough.

And going back to your original post, kids like you DO drive civics that cost 25,000 dollars and live at home with mom and dad, and THAT is like nails on a chalkboard to a guy like me who couldn't WAIT to get out of the house at 18 and make something of himself on his own... [IMG]

No, you now have $18k plus any money you get from the sale of your Ford. Do you not now have enough cash to continue searching for the car of your dreams?

Surely this overpriced peice of crap (if it really is that) is not the ONLY early Merc Custom that's being offered for sale anywhere in the world?

So have you learned anything for the effort?

Maybe you need to wear a condom when you look at the next car, so that when you shoot your load in your pants, the seller can't see the teltale wet patch that marks you as a sucker.

ALright already. I've got it out of my system. The rest of my junk is up for sale to fund my projects. FOr the record, I don't have a garage either.

I am just tired of guys trying to rape me on the price of thier junk. I don't have a problem paying a FAIR price for stuff.

Of course a highly sought after car will command more money, I realize that.

FOr my next act, I am going to drive 2000 miles to look at a different car. relax, no more drama, I promise.

Never finance anything you don't NEED. A house, maybe a reliable car for work or the family, that's IT! Too many kids move out and think they need the cool car, big screen tv and all the newest junk, then end up in major money trouble. Spend a few bucks to trick out the 58', save up for a welder and a cheap project and learn to do it yourself.
