To start with....Many thanks to Ryan for helping get past my ISP (Spam blocker). Hi! My name is Steve...and I'm a Carohaulic. I own and operate Swamp Fox Customs. We build just about anything but lean towards the older customs. http://www.swampfoxcustoms.com/AmbulanceLimo.htm The suede rod with six stromburgs catches my attention way before the chrome and fiberglass "Bellybuttons" http://www.swampfoxcustoms.com/1930_buick.htm I'm really looking forward to all the information available on this forum.
So where ya from, maybe what you've been into before etc etc. Welcome by the way,its damn kewl place to hang out......Shiny
Hmmm--Steve the caraholic (this is the correct spelling BTW!)?...so you own Swamp Fox...and you don't like "Belly*****on cars"...BFD, I don't either, but, at least I added a bit more to my intro than SPAM...suggest you do the same, to wit:. How old you are? You married? Got kids? How long you been building? WHY the dislike of "belly*****on" cars...Why are you here? What can YOU contribute? FWIW, a mediocre welcome to the House of HAMB from me... R-
Ouch! Used the links (SPAM?) to take up less space. 39 Divorced No Kids First engine in 1972 (Nailhead with Dad's help) First paint job in 1979 (Neighbor's car) First build in 1982 I don't dislike "Bellybuttons". I just prefer something a little different. Medicaly retired from the USN. Nuc Machinist Mate, Submarines (I'm good with a wrench) Diesel Tech in the reserves until the wreck I had in 2001 I'm here to learn and also pass on any info I have that may help others. Also willing to host meetings in the Atlanta area. You asked
<font color="purple"> Well since you worked on them... My grandpa was on the design team for nuclear subs. He was an electrical engineer. I love hearses and ambulances. But I have too many projects right now... </font>
From visiting your website I see you like 4 speed automatics and 17 inch wheels. Don't you think that 64 Rivy would be better off with some period correst wheels? Aren't 17s somewhere between period correct and bellybutton ? If you going for the big wheel look these days you need at least 20s. Yuck! Then I saw the 1930 Buick. Sounds sorta like a good plan. Six strombergs turned into EFI throttlebodies and a four speed automatic. Seems like the only thing you do with old hot rod parts is sell them on your web page or use them to disguise modern parts. Hot Rodding is cool no matter how you do it. Well there are exceptions (see Ebay for examples) But it seems you are wanting the look of nostalgia, traditional or whatever you want to call it without the soul that those old parts give a car. Man, try using some of those vintage pieces before you Rest-Mod them. You might find that you like the feel of a real hot rod. But what do I know? It's just an opinion of mine.
Steve 30 Buick coupe and a 6X2 322" Nailhead. Your tast in cars is perfect! Welcome. Judd 56 Buick 46R
Thanks for the welcome! I do have an old lincoln O/D that may find it's way into a rod. It will definetely be for someone else though, as I can't drive stick anymore. That is my attachment to automatics. Once the left ankle gets fixed, that will change. Yes, the big rims are overdone (17's are big enough, the 20's are just wrong). How about a set of fat steelies on the Ambulance? I'm thinking of getting the ones that are on it widened a little. Any good recomendations for hubcaps? I realized my focus was getting "Trendy". I guess that's part of why I'm here.
