OK.... So after hanging out here for a few months, last January I bought a
turn-key 28 RPU. I posted some photos and got a few comments. The RPU
had a lot of great features, but it had a lot of stuff on it that I really did
not care for. So, over the course of the last few months with much help
from the HAMB, I finally got it closer to what I want in a hot rod.

    Here are the 'before' photos:

    Here are the 'after' photos:

    Changes include:
    - Chopped and laid back windshield
    - Guide Headlights
    - Vintage Edelbrock intake and valve covers
    - 56 Olds cluster
    - 36 ford banjo wheel
    - Vintage beer tap shifter
    - Vintage tach
    - New modified Caravan seat
    - Pin striping

I would like to thank the following HAMBers for their Help:

Bull; inspiration with a plan and test driving the car the first 1,000 miles
Sawzall; for the steering wheel adapter
Jim Hetzler; for the pin striping
John Williamson; for the very cool windshield posts
Von Rigg Fink; For the cool dash Idea on the 56 olds cluster shown on the "Mother of all dash/gauge thread'

The windshield posts I bought from fellow HAMBer John Williamson. Yes, Bull drove the RPU down to the good guys last weekend and had Jim Hetzler do the striping. Bull is a brave soul for driving an unknown car 600 miles topless to the event. I had to stay back :(

My wife wanted me to use it as a porch swing, but I did not want it to burn down the house !

  12. Dash is very cool. Can't believe how well it fits the original oval depression. That modification shows some real thought. An Olds cluster in a Model A. Who knew?!!

I'm with the rest on the cluster. It is just perfect. You might have created a new classic "standard" here. Gary

I can't shoot my father

I was in a hurry to get the car ready for the local Back to the 50 car show here in town. I cut up the Caravan seat and I really did not want to use the upholstery that came with the seat. I went to the fabric store and got some cheap crap for a temporary cover and my dad did his best for an old shoe repair man. I did not want to do it right until I decided if I like how the seat looks and feels. hopefully by next year I will have the seat and door panels done properly in a dark brown worn leather look.

Looks much better! I really dig the Olds cluster, looks like it belongs there.

Now, if you were to lose that homely alternator for a chrome generator...

In agreement with the majority on this one, that cluster looks GREAT!

  25. Huge jump forward. The dash is fantastic.

I also am concerned about those shock angles though.

You've made a definite improvement along with making it your own. Not much left to do but rack up some miles.

It is. "just right"!! Really some great pinstriping, all the other changes are the bomb. So cool of Bull to make the trip to get the lines pulled, I am thinking 600 miles in that baby would be a total blast. Thanx for sharing the touches that seperate the cool ones from the masses. ~Sololobo~
